Hi and thank you for the reply.

You are right about it: I called CBP today and they told me that once selected for a DV Visa most probably won't get the TN Visa - just have to sit here and wait...

Out of curiosity, how do you qualify for both Tn status and a DV?

I believe individuals who are eligible for Tn status are also citizens of countries that are currently not eligible to obtain diversity visas.

TN Visa is for Canadian and Mexican citizens who want to live and work in US for a limited time, without the intent to settle there for good.

On the other hand, DV Visa is for those who want to permanently settle in US.

So, once selected for DV Visa, you most probably won't get the TN Visa.

Hope the above info is useful

I do know what both are for, but I wasn't sure how a person could be eligible for both the Tn and DV since Tn is for citizens of Mexico and Canada and the DV is not currently available to citizens of Mexico and Canada.

It seems like one could be eligible for a Tn or a DV based on nationality but not both, since the current criteria appear to be mutually exclusive.

So actually I'm still not really sure how a person could qualify for both.

That's the point: you cannot get both of them

If you were born in a DV eligible country then immigrated to Canada you cuold still apply for DV based on birth and TN based on immigration.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

The DV has nothing to do with which country of which you're a citizen. It just matters where you were born.

Yes, and the Tn has nothing to do with where you were born, it just matters what country you are a citizen of.

That scenario works. Sometimes the parents or spouse's country (if eligible) can be can be used instead, but there are conditions on that.

In the past, I occasionally heard of people from ineligible countries getting far along in the process before the ineligibility was discovered. One would think e-filing would have eliminated most of that, but I'm not really sure. At any rate, I was just curious.
