Hi everyone, my case is now in transit to the US embassy in Santo Domingo,I sent my petition on Sept and Nov,12 they approved my case, but they sent it to the NVC almost five weeks later, I called USCIS and don't know how many times until i get a CR that told me that i will receive a message from them before Dec. 14, So Dec 13 they sent me a message saying that our case was shipped to the NVC, I was waiting for this 9 years, and we have to THANKS EDIE WINDSOR for what she did for us..Happy New Year everyone..

Yes, as 2014 approaches, let's take a moment to thank Ms. Edie Windsor, without whom, we wouldn't have immigration equality. I also want to thank Ms. Mary Bonauto of GLAD who won the first ever DOMA lawsuit in federal court, setting the stage for the defeat of DOMA by Ms. Windsor at the US Supreme Court.

Thank you to these two ladies, all the DOMA plaintiffs and their lawyers and all those binational same-sex couples whol told their stories to the media and Soloway's The DOMA Project. All of these kept chipping away at the unconstitutional DOMA law that broke up loving couples, caused these same couples to go into exile or live apart continents away in some cases, and in extreme cases, caused the non-citizen partner of a US citizen to go out of status or go undocumented, subject to deportation and arrest at any time. Thankfully, this nightmare is over for same-sex binational couples.

Happy New Year, everyone!

I haven't posted on here for a while but I'm quite ecstatic to share that I was able to reschedule a much earlier interview - 14 JAN 2014 - in 10 days! Our original interview date was 06 FEB 2014 but someone must have canceled/rescheduled theirs so the earlier date opened up! We're happy to report that our visa was approved this morning in Rio de Janeiro! The information that we have received on this site was invaluable. Thanks to everyone for their encouragement and support. And a special shout-out to Edie Windsor, without whose bravery and determination none of this would have been possible. We'll post a fuller report later, but right now we're off to the beach to celebrate!

Thanks everybody!

Peter and Bonieke
