smells to me like the k-1 visa holder not chase after a SSN within the time frame allowed.

Now that she's your wife, study the I-94 dates, and if the expiration is greater than 10 AUG 2014,

go into a SSA office on Monday and apply for a SSN in the VISA name.

having a SSN trumps the w8 form requirement.

while yer at it, and visiting VJ with a question -

please fill out yer timeline over at

I had to send a w8ben when my husband added me to his bank account when I was still living in Canada. I also had to sign one again once I opened a US account and I didn't have an SSN (I was not living in the USA at the time.)
