When you make a thread in here, rather than just post a link can you maybe say something about the story or paste one or two paragraphs (not the whole story) about it so we have a rough idea what its about and what your opinion is?

If you do this, you might be pleasantly surprised to find you get more relevant responses.

Many do not want to click on links, for various reasons, from security, privacy, to just not having the interest to do so.

Thanks in advance.

Look, I'm not really up to fighting here. It was just a request. I mod other forums, and request the same, because it really does spark better conversation and helps gain reader interest. And again, many don't click on unknown links for various security or privacy reasons anyways.

If you don't see the value in this, then it is your loss really.

Most people paste the story and the link. You can usually tell what their opinion is by the story they post no?

Yes, obviously this thread is not directed to those that paste some of the content as well. Just that I've seen several threads lately where just a link is posted. It's not very good foruming, in my opinion. That is, if the intent is to spark discussion.

Ok, if you want a serious response, here it is: I usually post an excerpt or the full article (in flagrant violation of fair use, which I've decided I don't really care about if site admin doesn't). Sometimes I post a link and when I do so it's because I can't control-c control-v the content in a manner that would do it justice in an amount of time I deem reasonable or because I'm on a cell phone.

Yeah, I wouldn't suggest full articles either, for both the copyright issue and because many readers equally don't want to sit and read entire articles just to involve themselves in a discussion about it. A concise paragraph or two would serve a better purpose.

I'm not saying that there are readers who willingly click on everything under the sun and that there are not readers who willingly read every word of huge bodies of text, because yes there are. But, again, the whole point of my suggestion here is to help facilitate more widespread and relevant reader interest and interaction, which is the point of foruming.

I must be missing it, because I don't see many people at all who simply post a link.

From the past day there have been quite a few that I was drawn in by the title, wanting to learn more, only to find it had a link and nothing else.
