Hi all,

I filed my I-130 for my spouse back in May, and I used my maiden name as I had not changed my name yet. I was considering going through the name change process now, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice on the issue. Will it slow down or affect the processing of my husband's visa in any way? Or would it be wise to just wait until the visa is processed and approved before making any changes? Thanks in advance!

I Changed my name after I sent the application but I did use my married name on the application as I knew that I would change it eventually. I would leave it as is until everything is adjudicated. Then you can put your married name on the greencard and any other identification later.

Since you are the USC Petitioner, you can change your name whenever you want, it will not affect the process in any way.

Then you can put your married name on the greencard and any other identification later.

The OP is the petitioner, they wouldn't have a green card.

Yeh I don't know what train of thought I was on, but it is the same situation as me. I am the USC also I changed after petition was sent. But I did use my future married name name on the petition.

I would wait. Any small change will delay the embassy. They can't handle change. :)

The OP's file hasn't reached the NVC yet so the name change would appear on the DS-230 and that is what the Embassy works off of, not the I-130 that would have the maiden name.

well if you are a USC all you can do is send a copy of your new Social security card with the new name beside the marriage contarct licence to the USCIS and they will change it for you but you will need to keep an eye on it because this is what i did i sent the petition before i changed my name and i called them and they told me to provide these documents and they will change it but they didnt do it and it took me 5 months to get it updated with the help of my senator that checked it out for me and they did changed eventualy good luck :)

Thanks for the replies everyone! I think i'm just going to stay the course and keep things as is for now. It's easier for me anyway smile.png

I'm not changing mine until after he is here. It is a huge pain in the rear to change my license and SS card first.... then my passport so everything matches. I am still going back and forth to CR to visit, so it would be a huge inconvenience right now. And I don't want to pay the expedite fee for the passport.

I had to submit a copy of my entire passport to prove my travel... I would hate to have to show 2 passports and cause the slightest confusion and slow something down. LOL
