Gasoline prices begin summer slide

NEW YORK (AP) — Gasoline prices are on a summer slide, giving U.S. drivers a break as they set out for the beach and other vacation spots for the Fourth of July.

The national average for a gallon has fallen for 21 days straight and is now below $3.50 for the first time since February. The reason: Oil prices have been relatively stable, and refineries are turning out more gasoline after completing springtime maintenance.

The drop may be interrupted temporarily because oil prices spiked Wednesday on fears that the turmoil in Egypt would disrupt the flow of crude in the Mideast. Analysts, however, don't expect a sharp increase at the pump, because global oil supplies are ample and U.S. refineries are producing plenty of gas.

The national average price of a gallon is $3.48, according to AAA, OPIS and Wright Express. That is 16 cents below its post-Memorial Day high of $3.64 on June 10.

Gas prices have barely moved here. We've been somewhere between 3.25 and 3.60 for the longest time - filled up at 3.32 yesterday.

It's about ten cents lower, for the week of July 4th, from last week. The price north of San Francisco has ranged from $3.80 to $4.10 for the last few months. Last fillup was $3.90.

"Gas prices begin summer slide" - makes it sound like prices tend to down down in the summer.. Prices usually go UP in the summer... Happy to hear that it is bucking the trend this year.

same here, I really had not noticed the price changes since going from a 16 mpg SUV to a 40 mpg car earlier in the year.

I got one vehicle gets about 15 MPG and on that gets about 48 MPG. We drive the 48 a lot

I fill my tank up to $35 dollars and will last for 6 days going back and fourth to work and taking kid to school.

Prices dropped the past few weeks~ just filled up at $3.27 per gal
