If I had no insurance, I'd rather wake up in an Italian hospital at no cost rather than waking up in a California hospital with a $200K bill to pay.

That's the truth ! I have a longish backstory recovering from an accident in Perugia , but let me tell ya, when I was able to walk out of there, there was no bill to pay.

I've never figured it out, 12 years later, either.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

The Italian Constitution says the following: The Republic safeguards health as a fundamental right of the individual and as a collective interest, and guarantees free medical care to the indigent. This means that there was a bill to pay, but the invoice was not addressed to you.

I think the hospitals should do more to deport illegal aliens that show up for care.

I agree

Also, I would like to add that I know some immigrants who had their parent get a visitors visa when they knew they needed open heart surgery. The parents comes here, has the FREE surgery that would cost me about 300,000. and then they decide to stay indefinately. One of the parents has a son who is a foreign doctor here.

People know how to work they system. They know where to go for healthcare where they will not be reported.

I worked ER for 13 years. People come in without ID, give wrong names, don't know their socials, get free care (and I think there were Americans outsmarting the system also!) Meanwhile I have a 220.00 ER copay plus other expenses in the hospital and I pay big bucks every 2 weeks at my nursing job to get the care.

Where I work now charges 203.00 each time a nurse walks in your home to care for you. I do not get paid much of that. Nurses in Illinois' salary starts at 17.00/hr and up to 34.00 (where I work). These crazy high charges are to cover those people who will never pay their bill.... and believe me there are many. But the illegals should not be able to WORK our US system. They have had enough of our benefits.

Send them back home please. I am sorry you decided to have children while you were here. I am sorry you developed friendships and got a job paying you under the table. None of that should have been able to happen and now you shoud go back to your country and wait for your kid to sponsor you back into USA.
