When you go to the K-1 visa interview, you need to bring a copy of the I-129F as it was filed with USCIS. Is there any required or recommended way to bind it. The original filed with USCIS is 2-hole punched in the top and acco clip binded. But for the interview it seems would be better to 3-hole punch on the side and put in a binder or in folders by section maybe?

Any suggestions on how others did it?

Thanks!

I was planning on just sticking it all in a folder with 3 holes along with my police cert and copy of noa2 etc. etc.

edit: cant spell

First of all, you don't need the I-129F form itself at a visa interview; the interview would not be taking place had the petition not been approved. Secondly, the space to exchange documents is small, so anything you want to excnage would have to be removed from the binder.

and copy of noa2

You don't need this, an interview would not be taking place had the petition not been approved. The NOA2 is nothing more than the notice that the petition has been approved. All you are doing by including it is putting a piece of fluff in the file you are taking with you.

Agree with Ryan H.

It would likely be difficult to slide a bound document underneath a "bank-style teller' window common to many US embassies/consulates in foreign countries.

You aren't a K-1 petition filer so I guess this question isn't directed to you. The letter from the Embassy, specifically states to bring a copy of the I-129F, and pretty much everywhere else you read says to bring a copy ( see VJ guides, for example - and also I read a legal guide I got from the library that says the same). They don't give guidance on how to package it though. Also you are supposed to have a copy of the NOA2 as the other person above, stated. Maybe they won't ask for it, but don't want to be caught unprepared if they do.

Regarding the binder, that's why I was thinking of putting it into folders by major section rather than a hard binder. I just wanted to be sure that punching holes in it won't somehow invalidate the copy. I'm probably making too big a deal about it, and should just punch it and stick it in folders.

If you look closely at my signature, you will see that when I entered the wonderful world that is US Immigration, the K1 process was the path that I was about to start down and all of my initial research was about that process.

If the instructions from an Embassy or Consulate were to specifically instruct something, then I would not dispute it. However, I am curious as to why an they would instruct such a thing as CO's work off applicable DS forms, not the I-129F. I would also like to know the date that legal guide you speak of was published, procedures can and do change with varying degrees of frequency.

I stand by what I said earlier with the qualifer about Embassy/Consulate directions (follow those). As for having a copy of the NOA2, I still say it is worthless but ultimately, it's an individuals choice.

I'm preparing mine too and i don't use any binder. I don't want to make holes on the papers and heard that anything with metal will not go through, so I'm using a clearbook and preparing plastic paper clips in case I need it.

Could you post a copy of the instructions letter from the U.S. embassy in UAE? This is a first where I have read the embassy is actually requiring a copy of the I-129F petition, considering they will have the original sitting in front of them ( along with a digital copy in their computer).

Never read of the embassy requiring or even asking for a copy of the NOA2.

Oh I have read of "others" stating to bring a copy of the I-129F and the NOA2, but have never read where the embassy ever required it or asked to see either. Of course I give little credence to what others say without facts to back it up. Paranoia can get out of control.

I would appreciate seeing a copy of the embassy instructions letter from UAE, I know each embassy is different which is why I would like to read the UAE instructions letter.

Thanks

From the reviews that i have read here most of the paperwork isnt even looked at by the embassy, they only take the essential papers. you can take all of the papers with you but i think that the way it is bound is not an issue for approval or not. maybe just put it in a folder and mark the sections so you can easily get to what they will ask for.

just my humble opinion.

you must take the originals of everything that you sent in with the petition .....that is in case they need to verify anything again. i made 3 copies of my petition before i sent it in; 1) the copy i sent, 2) another copy in case first copy gets lost, and 3) the original set.

The copy of your I-129F petition paperwork is for your fiance(e) to read through what you included and wrote. The COs have been known to ask questions about the information found there. You can also have it on hand in case there is anything important that is declared to be missing at the time of your interview. I have never heard of the I-129F being required by any consulate that you must bring with you to an interview. Most consulates do not require the NOA2 either. You need that later when filing for AOS, and the beneficiary's A# can be found it, so hang onto it and don't lose it.
