Why is this RFE soooo LATE?

Hello,

I submitted all of the necessary documents for the K-1 Visa for my fiancee in Japan back in November 2012. Now, I've been checking the USCIS with my confirmation # for the last few weeks and it was stuck on "initial review". TODAY, after over 6 months, I checked the USCIS and there is a note saying "RFE" was mailed on June 18, 2013. Is it typical that they take this long to ask for evidence? Should I just wait until that piece of mail comes, or will they tell me over the phone. Why would it take so long for them to ask for evidence? Please any input from your own stories would be helpful. I am an American btw.

They haven't looked at your case until now. They went to approve it but something was missing so they have to send out a RFE. Yes, it's normal.

You mean you submitted the I-129f petition for fiance, right? Yes, that's normal processing time. It takes about 6 months at the moment for people to get approval. "Initial review" really means "Sat in a queue".

The good news is that an RFE means they're actually working on your case, so if you respond to the RFE promptly and accurately, your approval should be very soon.

Wait for the hardcopy RFE notice; respond accurately and promptly. Hopefully it won't delay you too much.

If you update your timeline with the RFE date information, your estimated VJ timeline will be adjusted with respect to the RFE.

I hope its just additional stuff they are looking for, because nothing was "missing" from what they asked me to sent. We shall wait and see. I hope I get that piece of mail before June lets out. Thanks for the replies.

It's been known for them to mislay things, so don't be surprised if it is something missing.

Normal time frame ..we got a RFE after 8 months like other's said wait for the hard copy.... good luck

I replied to my rfe on June 4th,I haven't heard anything since the.I called them,they told me to wait 60 days.

when we replied it was about 2 weeks and case approved. hope you all the best of luck
