Why culture if Negative Sputum?

4 posts in this topic

My finance had a scar on her lung, so they did the sputum, & thankfully it came out negative,

but my question is, why do they need the culture for two months if the test was negative? Neither one of

us understands this. What are we waiting to see now, & why do they have to do this?

Thanks, in advance for any input;

Rob & Jellie

TB takes at least 6 weeks to grow, so it's not officially negative until you've gotten past the 6 week mark

With the sputum they just do a quick stain looking for TB, but that's useless honestly. Anyway, I hope that helps!
