Hi everyone! Have some updates from my side, that I hope can help other people!

I figured you understood why they ask for the bona fide relationship evidence, but figured I'd include the info just in case.

I unfortunately don't have a citation on the self-translation. (I'd be more comfortable with a statement from USCIS, too.) I did find a lot of VJ threads where posters are advised that they can do their own translations, including a number of reports from those who have done their own. It's either a very common and pervasive myth on here or actually true.

I'm with you on the long documents blink.png

Re #2 that's my guess, as well. We'll clarify closer in if I don't see anything that clears it up.

Awaywego -- I wrote the Frankfurt consulate and asked about the translations and they confirmed I could do them myself. I would always suggest each person writes them and asks themselves (better safe than sorry, for liability reasons) but I thought you would appreciate knowing that!

Make an Info Pass appointment in Frankfurt and file there in person. You will be able to go through your petition with an officer on the spot, and clarify any questions. They also precheck everything at the same moment. Friends of us did it this way and had their DCF done in just 6 weeks.

I live in Berlin, and can't make it -- probably at least for a month. I think it would be faster to do it per post, but will go in person if I foresee any delays! Wish I were closer!

Hi schinx87, yes I just included the credit card authorization form with my I-130 package. It's not secure, that's true, but then I figured that all other documents that I'd be sending contain some type of sensitive information (including social security number, etc.). You can also mail it using Einschreiben.

Yes, I did include proof of bona fide marriage. However, all evidence was already in English because we lived in the U.S. together for some years (spouse was student there). We used photos and our lease in the U.S. as proof of joint residence and we also sent them our joint health insurance document.

I don't have any other tips. I just followed their instructions and our I-130 was approved quickly.

Thanks Maeve, for the answer! I appreciate it.

We are just getting our pictures done for the I-130 tomorrow and can send the package away. I look forward to seeing how long it lasts.

On a completely different note:

I was wondering if anyone here has feedback on sending Package 3 and more specifically the I-864 form through Frankfurt (as I'm getting all this tax stuff up to date in a parallel fashion!).

-I see this proof of obtaining Domicile is kind of a big deal for this form -- does anyone have experience on how much info they gave (what was enough) -- I still have a US Bank Account and US Permanent Mailing Address, but we will be moving in with my parents temporarily and thus won't be singing any leases. We also won't be going over for work. How did they handle this -- this must be an issue for every person filing in Germany!

-When proving 125% income over the poverty limit -- are they relying solely on proof of income (from previous year tax returns, in this case 2013 earnings)? I will be moving over and not have my German job anymore -- wouldn't they want proof that I will have income when I'm there too? Maybe I'm over complicating this -- but wanted your feedback. My parents have no trouble being a joint sponsor (also, perhaps its useful as its where our domicile is) so we have no trouble being "better safe than sorry" and having them fill out the I-864 as well.

Thank everyone for all their help :) I know this information is probably everywhere on the website but I love hearing your specific feedback in regards to Frankfurt DCF. IF someone else has already covered this , I'm happy to be referred to that post as well --and sorry for repeating!

Thanks!

I just sent package 3 (including the Affidavit) last Thursday, so I can't tell you yet if the evidence I included was enough. But from what I researched is that you can't include income that won't continue once you move to the U.S. So on form I-864 where it asks for "current individual income" you can't list any income that won't continue. In our case we were able to list current income because we have an online business and all income will continue. Regarding tax returns/income from previous years, it's not as important as current income. They just want to see how stable your income has been over the past few years. Regarding domicile, all I have is U.S. bank and credit card accounts (with U.S. billing address), driver's license and a mailing address (a friend) and that's all the evidence I included.

Thanks! It is nice to hear it from the horse's mouth. Feels somehow more secure than just the official instructions not saying we can't translate our own documents plus reports of people successfully translating their own. We might also ask Frankfurt when we get closer to sending in our I-130.

Hey there -- in this situation I would just write USCIS.Frankfurt@uscis.dhs.gov for this question :) They were helpful to me in the past! Sorry for the late answer!

Hi Frankfurt DCFers :)

You have been of great help to me already -- I was wondering if anyone currently in "packet 3 phase" could help me with some I-864 (affidavit of support) questions. I posted something on the main DCF thread, but just wanted to make it known here:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/488551-filling-out-i-864-advice/

Thank you in advance. I want to make sure everything is done correctly before I send it all in :)

All the best,

Schinx

Questions about Packet 3 (Live in Dusseldorf, Applying DCF Frankfurt I-130 for Japanese wife also residing in Germany):

Just received our notice in the mail from the USCIS in Frankfurt that the I-130 for my wife was approved.

  • Wondering what's the next step?
  • USCIS now sends the case on to the Immigrant Visa unit at the consulate?

I've read about all the documents to prepare for Packet 3.

  • Will the case number/Packet 3 info come in the mail or will the consulate in Frankfurt email info about the next step?

Appreciate any help with these questions. Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can offer. This site has been so helpful with this process!

Hi everybody!

I have just found this forum and it really helps me calm down while waiting for all the paperwork is done.

Our story as follows. I'm Venezuelan, hubby is American/German. We met in Berlin in 2010 and got married in the US on July 2012. We decided to do so with me travelling under my tourist visa because we were not going to stay in the US. In August we moved to Germany so he could finish his MA. Since then I learned German and found a job with the United Nations. He's currently writing the thesis and we have bought tickets to fly back to the US on October 20.

We filed the I-130 on April 18 this year (I received my German residence card in October 2012) and we received our NOA1 on April 29. Since then, nothing else has happened. We have gathered all the other documents we need and will send them as soon as we get the NOA2. We're a little nervous because we don't want to lose the tickets we already have.

If you read this and are also filing in Frankfurt share your experience! What your times are?

I see at your timeline signature that you returned the packet because there was a mistake. What was it if you don't mind me asking? I received mine like a few months ago but didn't bother to look carefully and now after reading your post right several days before our trip to the states, I am even afraid to look there lol

They had listed my husband's name as my father's name on the front page of the packet. DO NOT OPEN THE PACKET UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. If all the information in the front page is correct, you're good to go. If there's a mistake, you'll need to contact the consulate urgently.
