I followed much of the advice here and front loaded the petition with evidence of an ongoing relationship. We followed the steps for the interview with my fiancee getting medical exam, birth certificate, police report etc.... Made the appointment.

We had spent a lot of time reviewing many many potential questions. it was good to go into a lot of depth with each other and asking about each others childhood, relatives and many many things that maybe we would not have talked about. Things that may have come up much later in the relationship, but we went in prepared for a Stokes interview if necessary and actually the review was good to add more depth to our relationship.

We had a 10 am appointment and got there too early at 8:30am, waited until 9am when they let us in. at 9:50 my fiancee was called up to a window and I went with her. We handed over everything we had, she had a lot of evidence from the petition and new photos and evidence this time too. There were many photos of me with all of her family, photos of us all preparing meals together, photo of me driving a car with all of her family in it etc... also many photos of all of us as we made several trips around Ecuador together.

The woman with the first interview was very pleasant to us, she started asking the basic questions, "when did you meet your fiance, how did you meet him, etc.." But she did ask about why I came to Ecuador in the first place. She told her about my bicycle trip through Colombia and Ecuador when i was attempting to ride through the Andean mountain range. She did not know what to say at first, so the traditional relationship questions pretty much stopped at that and all she wanted to know about was about me and my bicycle rides. I also rode from key West, Florida to Alaska. After she started asking many questions in detail to my fiancee she finally told her "I do not know, ask him". so the person doing the interview then started asking me about my rides, she was genuinely interested and curious. I really enjoyed talking to her about my experiences. Afterwards she told us to sit down.

So having had the foresight to bring a pad of paper and a pen we sat down and played tic tac toe, hangman and SOS for 45 minutes. We were then called up to another window and spoke to a man. The first interview was all in Spanish to my fiancee, except when she wanted to ask me about my bicycle ride, then she talked to me in English because I do not speak Spanish. The man was cordial, and very respectful while asking the questions in English to my fiancee. I think he may have been testing her English ability, which she even corrected him once in his english. he said "your English is very good". He then asked me a few questions about how well I know her family, which was very easy for me to answer because I know all of them very well and am considered a part of the family.

He went right from asking just a few questions to handing her pieces of paper about getting her passport and info through DHL and also a paper on her rights and how to report domestic violence and abuse in the United States. he never said we were approved but by giving her the information about entering into the US it was obvious. And that was it.

Everyone was very pleasant and nice to us. I think being organized and prepared helped. Also using my own intuition and being confirmed by a few others that it was a good idea, I added a few extra things. A letter from the minister who will marry us giving the date, location and some of the wedding plans. Also character references too.

All they want to know is 1) is it a real relationship 2) can the US petitioner support the beneficiary.

Just prove those two things. I even added an additional explanatory letter in regards to my income. I work on contracts for 3 months at a time so I was officially unemployed while I am here but with my letter of explanation, 3 months of paystubs and a letter from my employer they never questioned it.

I tried to put myself in their shoes and thought what I would do if I wanted to catch those who are trying to do this illegally, I asked myself what is it that they really want to know? And by adding extra things, any questions they might have asked were already answered in my packet.

Very few questions and they were basically about how we met and if I knew her family. Those questions seemed to be obligatory so they can type up a summary in the computer about us.

Anyway, it was a very easy process for us and we actually had fun talking to them.

One thing someone told me about in case anyone else is nervous about going it taking propanolol which is available over the counter in the pharmacies here, it is prescription in the US.

"Propranolol is often used by musicians and other performers to prevent stage fright. It has been taken by surgeons to reduce their own innate hand tremors during surgery"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propranolol

Hope this helps others, if you have a real relationship, go in with confidence, as long as you are prepared with all the paperwork, relationship evidence and you can provide proof of financial stability then there is nothing to worry about.

just curious why this was moved?

I wanted to share more about the "process" there.

More people look in the process forum then they do the progress report forum.

It will be helpful for people to know the process worked for us the day of our interview and how to properly prepare for the process.

*** Moved to progress reports forum ***

What you can do is also post this as a review in the Ecuador section.

What you can do is also post this as a review in the Ecuador section.

agreed, this is a very helpful review, be sure to post it in the Embassy Reviews section so that applicants many months from now will still have access to your advice!!!

Congratulations! I hope my fiance's interview in Lima is as much of a breeze as yours!

The thread was moved because this is a case-progress report, and a very complete, detailed one.

Congratulations, Brother Wade! You prepared effectively and survived the consulate!

Note to all: Propanolol is widely used, but be sure that you have no contraindications to taking it. Not a doctor here; just common sense.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us! I just got our NOA2 on july 9th, but now we have lots of questions in how to proceed. I don't know if you can help me with this... I'm a little confuse about what to do first. Do I need to call for the appointment? Should I wait for the embassy to contact me before downloading the package or can I just do it? Also how did you do the medical, before making the appointment? Des then petitioner needs to come to Guayaquil or can I go alone.

I'm sooooo sorry, I know it's so many questions but I really need the advice of someone who just went through the process... I'm very anxious about doing this all by myself. Thank you in advance :)

Hi, I would advise you to read this thread. It's pretty long and it goes back five years, but the info in it is really good.

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/110313-us-consulate-in-guayaquil-ecuador/

Now, first and foremost, according to the thread, the petitioner must be present at the interview. I strongly advise this. I was there with my then fiancée and we had an easy process.

As for scheduling, wait for the NVC to forward the case to Guayaquil. Email them after you confirmed that it was sent, they'll tell you to download packet 4 form their website. The instructions for scheduling the interview are in it, as well as the medical. Schedule the interview, the doctor won't see you without having an interview scheduled.

Also, if you have any other questions, go ahead and post in the thread I posted earlier. The old, long one. We are all on it and can help you further.

Thank you for your quick answer. I guess I'll just relax for now until I hear something from NVC. But it's more clear for me now how to proceed. Thank you and I'll comment if I need more info :)
