I think this thread got momentarily locked, and someone made a new one. This one got unlocked rather quickly, and the two were merged.

Generating page views is not against the rules of the site.

Frankly, I think the argument got muddled and too many individuals known to associate with each other off-site were seen as forming the bulk of the complainants. The optics were terrible and site moderation assumed a defensive posture as a result.
