Take this poll :P

And if you have ever done the 'get up really early for deals' thing, tell me what kind of deals you have gotten.

I've never done it, but want to experience it one day just to know what happens in those wee hours of the morning. :D I'm still not convinced that getting up in the middle of the night is worth it. I had fun sleeping in today.

So what did you get that was a crazy good deal by partaking in the mayhem? :P

Wanted to add, I do end up in a store on "Black Friday" usually. We put up Christmas decor usually the day after T-day and sometimes we find out we need more lights or something else needed for the decorations, so we go to a store.

I got a 30 inch Samsung Slimfit Flat CRT TV today...it was a customer return at Sears and it was a few hundred off the original price. I have the perfect spot for it, so I didn't really need an LCD...it worked out perfectly.

Last yeat I got up early, waited in line for an hour, waited in the check-out line for an other 2 hours, and got a printer with some extra rebates. I never got one of the rebates so I ended up paying the same as any other time. So, year I just slept in.

Best Buy had a smokin' deal on a Toshiba L35 notebook for $250 OTD with NO rebates that caught my eye though. That would have been worth waiting for but quantities were limited so you could wait in line for nothing.

I got aggravated and my wife got a free education.

She woke me up at 4am in the morning to go buy one of the 10 incredibly cheap LCD TVs offered at a local electronics store. She was disappointed to see the several hundred people waiting in line at 4:30am for the store to open at 6am.

She settled for a $14.95 (list price) hair brush at a nearby store that she got for 99 cents. She was quite proud of it.

The moral of the story...a bargain is in the eye of the beholder. Perception and reality is all in the hype.

It's all a game to part the fool from their money.

I always thought that a bargain is something one doesn't need at a price one cannot resist. :P

True...and the American consumer is famous for buying something they don't need with money they don't have. It just makes them feel better when it is a "bargain".

I always found it an oxymoron that corporate America is always telling the consumer how much they save by buying something when you can really save even more by buying nothing. ;)

What deals? Well, I got a pair of boots for $69.99 that were originally priced at $125, and I'm going to see about picking up a 1GB XD picture card for my digital camera at the price of $19.99. I can't imagine how many photos I could take with that! :D

about 400 pics at the best quality... and about 70 minutes of video at best quality.... we paid about 100 bucks for ours :o

I went last year and got some great deals, but I didn't go this year. I agree about the "it's not a bargain if you don't need it" theory, but I also think it's a great opportunity to buy Christmas presents that you're going to buy anyway, at a really great price! That's what I've always used it for, and I think a lot of people. I got most of Corey and Craig's gifts at a cheaper price last year by going about 3am! ;) I got up, stood in line for a Gameboy SP for Corey at half price, and then I got a lot of other things for both of them in stores a lot cheaper than normal..clothes,etc. Black Friday is great for that! :) M.

ETA: a lot of times I don't know exactly what I'm going to get Corey for Christmas until I read the day-after-Thanksgiving ads! We don't have limitless income to spend (far from it!) and I do try to get him some of what he's asked for, but he's always been really happy with the 1/2 price or so gifts I've picked up on that day, even if they weren't on his list. Saves me some cash to both make him happy with what I got at a bargain price, and get him more of what else I might know he wanted. M.
