When I was naturalized in May 2011 they used the pic from the biometrics.... not the passport pics, and trust me, it isn't pretty after being awake all night working.....lol

This is kind of funny. The choice is between a picture with a bad haircut or the possibility of being called active in the Egyptian military. Bring on the bad photo!

They used the biometrics photo for hubby's application... He traveled internationally 2-3 time a week during the process for work with NO problems (he just had to update his trips at the interview and oath on a separate piece of paper). You said you would be gone for 4 months... Most folks process has been complete in 3-4 months... Ours was 70 days from application to oath... Phoenix is rather quick as well (look at recent progress reports from the past few months) so plan accordingly. Biometrics appt. is usually within 6 weeks of filing...

actually they will take ur pic at the fingerprint, they took mine and actually used that pic and put it on my certificate

I sure wish they'd use the photograph I sent in with my original N400 -- I'm pregnant, the last thing I want is that full-faced photo snapped in a hurry at a Walgreens for the interview, or the biometrics photo when I'd been run down and exhausted from March...

That said, traveling outside the country won't be a problem at all. I have done so repeatedly after submitting my N400. I updated the page for days spent outside the U.S. and countries traveled to, presented that at my immigration interview, and then updated *again* when my oath ceremony was given.
