Hi,

Sent in our first step last week. I know its still early days, however, I was looking at available doctors to do the medical in Canada, and there are only 4 or 5 ? Is this right ? I would have to fly to every single one of them, this cannot be right surely ? I appreciate not every physician would do it, but no one else?

Anyone had any experience with this ? By the way I am in winnipeg.

It is correct you can only used the properly listed doctors. Located in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal.

Moved from K-1 forums to Canada forums as this is specific to Canada.

Yes you have to use one of the doctors listed. It really is a pain that they are so far for most ppl.

Doctors have to apply to USCIS to become panel physicians and then USCIS has to approve them. There used to be more available but about 3 or 4 years ago there was a big 'de-listing' of panel physicians by USCIS in Canada. I don't know if anyone ever told us the reason, but yeah, it sure seems unreasonable that there are so few for such a large country.

There is an updated list of panel physicians on the montreal consulate page.

Yeah it's unfortunate how there isn't more of a range in locations... I live in Nova Scotia so it will be a pain to have to go to Montreal for a week! Worth it in the end though. :)

11/14/2016 - NOA1

12/08/2016 - Biometrics

Check to see if the flights are cheap enough to fly there and back twice. I am glad to have gotten away for a week but after $560 for flights and $800ish for hotel plus food for the week. Woulda been cheaper to fly twice. ;)

First of all WHOOOHOOO! I'm from Winnipeg too! *high five*

I would imagine its a pain and more trouble than its worth to become a panel physician. Drs have enough aggravation within the province, why make it more complicated and deal with the US government and their rules and regulations for the immigration medicals too.

And most GPs have enough business--prob too much--so why add to it?

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
