Study: Media Fact-Checker Says Republicans Lie More

Oh, really? Have you read anything from Ayn Rand? Do you realize how much this woman despised government social programs? You're delusional if you don't see the hypocrisy of accepting social security and medicare when you hold firmly in the belief in Rand's version of self reliance. Good grief.

Interesting. If I say I haven't read Ayn Rand, then I am ignorant, but if I did, I must be just like her. Which division do you fall under?

That seems to be the axiom with the republican'ts: They abide by the notion that every bit of their philosophy should apply to everyone else, not to themselves.

That is more a Democrat notion, I do believe, but carry on. It was a Republican Congress that decided the rules they pass should more, or less, apply to Congress as well.

how isn't it voluntary? i can deal drugs and never pay a dime into fica. or i can work under the table babysitting or prostituting butt sex while eating filet mignon.

Sure all illegal of course. Not paying taxes on income whether it's legal or illegal is also against the law. Ask Al Capone.

God who cares, the point was someone being against something in principle but using it for their benefit in practice.

still, following the law is voluntary. we all chose to play the game according the rules set for us..

I agree 100%. Doesn't mean you have to agree with the law though. If that law requires you to pay a tax, you follow that law or go to jail. I don't see anything wrong with getting a benefit that you are required to pay for, just because you are against the law requiring you to pay. Actually to not get the benefit would be pretty stupid.

There's lots of things in the tax code people disagree with, yet they are still required to pay taxes. Maybe Mr. Smith doesn't like paying his FICA tax, but is required to pay it. Does that make him a hypocrite when he turns 67 and wants something back from all that money he was forced to pay over the years? I don't think so.

Now if Mr. Smith didn't pay any FICA taxes and then wanted to collect, I'd see a problem there. I think that's why you have to have x number of qualifying quarters to be eligible to collect social security.

So Steven has yet again provided another failed analogy. Not surprising. He should stick to windmills and solar power.

i get what you're saying, but ayn rand had no need to collect - outside of her own self obsession..if i were rich, i would not collect out of principal.

I swear by my life, and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.

If I were rich, I would collect. You wouldn't be rich in the first place if you get in the habit of turning down money that is owed to you. I'd rather have the treasury pay me what they owe me, then pi$$ it away financing wars and $70,000 sports cars.

and that is exactly why i'll never get rich.

i'd also never ever ever spend anywhere close to that on a car. my honda was four grand and is over ten years old. best car ever.

I have a Honda as well. Haven't had an issue in the 3 years I've had it. Well, except the hailstorm. Not Honda's fault though.
