Convicted murderer Ami Popper, who is currently serving time for killing seven Palestinian civilians during the First Intifada, on Sunday married a convicted child abuser he met in prison.

The bride, labeled "The Abusive Mother" during a highly publicized 2009 trial, was a member of a cult led by Elior Chen, which was notorious for its abusive practices toward children. The mother was convicted of allowing her eight children to be horrifically abused by Chen and his disciples. Her sentence was reduced after she cooperated with the prosecution and she was released from Neve Tirza women's prison last year.

Exactly 23 years ago today, Popper used a stolen army rifle to line up and gun down seven Palestinians waiting at a bus stop in Rishon Letzion. Popper was sentenced to seven life sentences, but former President Chaim Weizmann commuted his sentence to 40 years. He is expected to be released in 2030.

In 2007, while on a 48-hour furlough from prison, Popper, driving with an expired license, got into an accident that killed his former wife and one of his sons.

all told, he'll have served less than 6 years per man he slaughtered, during a 40 yr sentence filled with multiple furloughs.

Guess Israeli killers of civilians don't get the hero treatment that Palestinians do?

Graveside party celebrates Hebron massacre

_685792_settler300.jpg

Celebrants dressed as Baruch Goldstein
Militant Jews have gathered at the grave of Baruch Goldstein to celebrate the sixth anniversary of his massacre of Muslim worshippers in Hebron.

The celebrants dressed up as the gunman, wearing army uniforms, doctor's coats and fake beards.

Israeli settlers read prayers at the grave

Goldstein, an immigrant from New York City, had been a physician in the Jewish settlement of Kiryat Arba.

Waving semi-automatic weapons in the air, the celebrants danced, sang and read prayers around his grave.

"We decided to make a big party on the day he was murdered by Arabs," said Baruch Marzel, one of about 40 celebrants.

The tribute was a macabre twist on the Jewish festival of Purim, when it is a custom to dress in costume and celebrate.

Massacre in mosque

In 1994 on Purim, Goldstein stormed a mosque and fired on praying Muslims in the West Bank city's Tomb of the Patriarchs - a shrine sacred to both Muslims and Jews.

Twenty-nine people died in the attack, and the angry crowd lynched Goldstein in retaliation.

Israeli extremists continue to pay homage at his grave in the nearby Jewish settlement of Kiryat Arba, where a marble plaque reads: "To the holy Baruch Goldstein, who gave his life for the Jewish people, the Torah and the nation of Israel."

About 10,000 people had visited the grave since the massacre, Mr Marzel said.

My point exactly. Polarization is a bee-yoch.

Only it wasn't your point at all.

But now you're trying to equate the two sides ? Interesting. So you're basically saying that Israel has done everything that you accuse Palestinians of doing ?

I think anything less than unblinking support for either side of the issue is unproductive. I have been consistent in my opinion on that.

It was my point. This thread is emblematic of the new effort to paint Israel as always bad, just remove the context.

If executing and dragging bodies through the streets can be justified by context, perhaps the murders in the OP can also be. A highly polarized point of view helps a lot.

Israel isn't "always bad."

It's ethnic cleansing, territorial expansion by force, illegal occupation, colonization and apartheid that are always bad.

This is the context.

Too bad Popper didn't end up like Goldstein, maybe at least his wife and child would still be alive today if not for his indifference to human life in general, be it strangers or loved ones.

This was no jailhouse wedding. Clear he got to go on another out of prison vacation despite being a continued danger to society.

I guess there needs to be some kind of counter-balance to the never ending media blitz the Israelis are on 24/7 claiming that the Palestinians are a bunch of Muslim terrorists. It's easier to kick them off their land and bulldoze their houses if you can paint them in a sub-human nature.

If I ever need to hire a P.R. firm for something, I'll make sure they have previous experience in Israeli politics and foreign policy. They sure seem to have everyone snowed in this country anyway. Although that's not saying much about the international awareness of most Americans.

46+ years of overwhelmingly pro-Israeli coverage in the US has most Americans so confused they don't even know who's occupying who. And no complaints from the pro-Israel crowd.

But try to show anything about the Palestinian side to the story - well that's "biased" and "unfair" and "polarized" and they call you names and demand that you argue their point for them.

As the quizmaker said, people who can't answer 12 or more questions correctly on that quiz should sit down, talk less, and read more.

This was his third marriage while in prison !

....

During his time in prison, Popper became religious, got married and had three kids. In 2007, while on prison leave, Popper was involved in a car accident which left his wife and one of his sons dead. He had been driving without a license.

He has since remarried and got divorced. Sunday's wedding is his third marriage.

In late 2012, he was transferred from the Maasiyahu Prison to the Ayalon Prison after repeatedly harassing former President Moshe Katsav, who is serving a seven-year sentence for rape.
