Since food stamps and their usage comes up pretty frequently here in P&R, I thought this link could be fun.

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/map_of_the_week/2013/04/food_stamp_recipients_by_county_an_interactive_tool_showing_local_snap_data.html

I live in an area with 18% of the population getting SNAP benefits averaging $63/month/person.

What's up where you live???

Wow! Lots of deadbeats in your county, compared to a safe Democratic county in the People's Republic of California:

About 5 percent of people in your county are in the program.

$746 per person per year.

Or $62 per person per month.

When you posted that I thought, "surely that can't be right." But except for Obama and LBJ (for obvious reasons), Dallas County has always voted for the Republican presidential candidate since 1952.

Our county:

About 14percent of people in your county are in the program.

That proportion has grown 227 percent since 2000. (200% of that was since 2008)

That's $804 per person per year.

Or $67 per person per month.

OH yeah our county is a blue county in Texas

Neighboring counties, all red:

About 9percent of people in your county are in the program.

About 6percent of people in your county are in the program.

About 10percent of people in your county are in the program.

About 8percent of people in your county are in the program.

Blue county a couple of counties over:
