NYT: A goal of the Senate bill is to bring more than 11 million illegal immigrants into the system, requiring them to pay any back taxes they owe (many of these immigrants already pay taxes) as well as their future taxes.

USA Today: The bill currently allows most of the nation's unauthorized immigrants to become U.S. citizens in 13 years after they pass a criminal background check, pay taxes, fees and $2,000 in fines, learn English and maintain employment.

Yahoo News: According to the language of the Senate bill, those living in the U.S. illegally who arrived before Dec. 31, 2011, must wait up to 13 years to achieve citizenship, and only after undergoing a rigorous application system that includes background checks, proof of access to gainful employment and the paying of back taxes and fines.

CNN: The bill would also require undocumented immigrants to pay a penalty of up to $500 for having come to the United States illegally and also pay any back taxes before receiving temporary approval to stay.

C-Span: This will include passing a background check and settling their debt to society by paying a fine and back taxes, in order to earn probationary legal status, which will allow them to live and work legally in the United States.
