We didn't have a cermony - will we be denied?

Hello,

So me and my husband are non-religious and simple - to us, we married out of love and because we want to create a life together here in the US since he got a job here and I want to be able to live and work here. We were thinking of maybe having a wedding cermony next summer when we have saved up some money, to please our parents and because its nice to have a reason to party.

We haven't told a lot of people as frankly, I absolutely hate the "omg omg omg you're married AAAAAAH" bullshit. Also, all the social pressure about how things should go down with rings and bla bla bla.

Now, I'm not worried as we have a lot of proof of our five years together and we haven't done anything illegal, but i know how this country works , so what can we actually say to the people in the interview? I wanna say the truth "We married for our own sake, out of love. We wanted it simple and no unecessary fuss." Will they deny us because we don't follow the "norm"?

That is exactly how my wife rolled through her AOS. No family at wedding. I told the IO at the interview....We married for us, not for them.

Finished!

You should be fine, we didn't have a big thing either. It was just me, my husband and my son. Afterwards we went for lunch. Nothing fancy and just for us. I didn't get questioned about it at all.

You'll be fine. So many people are in your situation.. Don't worry about not having a "real" wedding. As long as you can show evidence your marriage is real, you will not be denied based on not having a ceremony.

Same here.. Its just too expensive, quite frankly we wanted a house as opposed to throwing a wedding for other people to enjoy the free food and drinks while I pay $20k for them

We were asked at the AOS interview:

Where did you get married? Justice of the peace

No wedding? Nope, too costly and all of the family wouldnt be able to attend

Who was there? A few members of his family

Why not mine? They are in Jamaica and was too expensive (plus it was January and too cold for them)

Why wasnt his mom there? She thinks we are too young (22) btw

Ok, you guys are good... and that was it... I think they understand that we are not all into the wedding "bliss" and it doesne mean a thing in regards to your love

it's very common nowadays, We only had a court marriage no ceremony, Rejection from the family, because of religion difference and we got approved on the spot. So, just think about the evidence , and you will be good don't worry :)
