Immigration agents came to my apartment

my wife called me at work yesterday to tell me that 2 immigration agents came to our apartment. they spent 25 minutes asking her questions then handed her the ASC appointment letter to have her biometrics taken in 3 weeks.

i found this strange since i just submitted her AOS and EAD documents 3 weeks ago. the notice date on these is 3/29/13, so they only logged it in a week ago.

i assumed it would take months to get to us, not a week. anyway, the sooner, the better.

anyone here have a similar experience with this matter?

what city is the 'local uscis office' for you,

and what city is the asc appointment at ?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

It is really not strange and you should not be alarmed. These visits are quite common practice by the USCIS. One of the advantages of close scrutiny is that your case is more likely to go through the process faster.

Good luck!

Is it really common practice?? I would be freaked out if they showed up at my house for no reason. I can"t imagine they have the manpower to do that kind of stuff frequently unless there is a red flag or something...

Yes, it is quite common that USCIS agents pay home visits to applicants and there is no reason to freak out. They are just checking out that an application for residence is kosher. In most cases they are checking for what might appear to be immigration fraud. It is really not a big deal.

Yikes....I wonder why they came to your place of residence? I don't think that is normal procedure and I would be concerned. Hope everything is ok for you guys.

Nope, no reason to be concerned. They do random visits. They came to my house. The more contact and attention your case gets, the better.

NOA 2 August 25, 2011

Ok...it's just not something you see mentioned very often here so I'll take your word for it :)

I would still not be happy if they showed up at my house. I don't really understand why they would pay a home visit to a K-1 adjusting status but what do I know lol. I do hope it is the case that nothing is amiss for OP. As always, good luck to all!

There are who marry as a means to obtain a green card, so be it a K-1, or AOS, they tend to so these visits. I am not saying nor suggesting that is the case here, but the USCIS does it all the time. It is also true that they do not have enough agents to check everyone who should warrant it, one of the reasons you don't hear about it more often.

While I wouldn't say it's a common occurrence, it isn't exactly unheard of either.

Buried in the fine print on some immigration forms is a notice where they say they reserve the right to visit your residence without giving you any notice.
