Hello VJ's, I just wanna ask if i'll be needing my NBI clearance on my interview appointment. I am married, but my visa application named with my maiden name, and so my NBI clearance. My question is, Do i still need to get NBI clearance using my husbands' last name though all my docs that i'm going to give them are on my maiden name?? Thanks in advance. :)

NBI should be for any name you have used. You should list your married name with AKA for married name, plus any other names you may have legally used.

I would think so, my wife's NBI's have her married name on them. She got 2 the same day.

I guess some others will confirm this.

THANK YOU for all the infos. BUT i still have another question, there are instances in NBI that you will not able to get your clearance on the same day because of validation purposes like: You have same name with others that has a criminal record. Usually, HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET THE NBI CLEARANCE?

NBI with AKA is only needed if your name had corrections on your birth certificate.

If you want your NBI with married name: your full maiden name + husband's last name will appear on your NBI clearance so no need to get a separate one with AKA. You will see a "DE" and "Y" on the clearance.

That is not what the embassy states in their instructions letter for IR/CR-1 visa (what this person is applying for), the want married name and all other names used.

I'll make an example.

Name on birth certificate (maiden name):

First Name: Maria Anna

Middle Name: Reyes

Last Name: Santos

Husband's First Name: John

Husband's Last Name: Smith

If you want to use your married name on the NBI clearance, your name on the NBI clearance will appear as:

SANTOS de SMITH, MARIA ANNA y REYES

Full maiden name + husband's last name will BOTH appear on the clearance.

AKA will be needed if there were corrections on your name (corrections were made on your BC) and if you used your ex-husband's surname (from previous marriages).

I agree! It makes sense. Why get separate ones when all the names you have used previously are already indicated in the married status of NBI clearance? Just a waste of time and money when you get two. :-)

Only one NBI is needed, but it needs to be ordered with AKA to include any names used, in the case of a married Filipina the AKA would be her previous single name.

This exerpt from the embassy letter:

6. NBI CLEARANCE.

Applicants aged 16 years and older must have a valid Record Clearance for Travel Abroad Purposes from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Clearances should be in the applicant’s current name, birth certificate name, maiden name and any aliases or nicknames used, including different spellings you have used of those names. An official letter of explanation from the NBI is required for any notation of "No criminal record" or "No pending case". For immigration purposes, an NBI clearance is valid for one (1) year from the date it was issued. The NBI web site is http://www.nbi.gov.ph.
