To work or not to work... EAD in hand, AOS interview date pending

Not sure this is posted in the right place, but we'll leave that up to the others to decide...

Just got my EAD/AP combo card. My AOS interview was rescheduled, between March 28th - June 6th.

IF, I get my Green Card in time, I wish to visit my home town, in Canada for June 17th, to attend a ceremony for a dear friend that passed away.

So, what would you do? Would you start looking for work? And during your interview say, ...'Oh, by the way, I have a Green Card interview, but I don't know when, and I have to fly 1/2 hr away to attend it, which means I might need 1-2 days off if it's mid week, and also, I'm planning on going away for 2 weeks to Canada in June. Is that okay?' ... ( I have to fly, I'm on an island... Maui to Oahu)

To be truthful, money isn't an issue, (thanking the universe daily). Going to my home town in June is SO important to me, to honor my friend. And of course, there's family & friends I haven't seen in forever. Not everyone could attend our wedding... (but that's life...)

So, what would you do? Apply for temporary work?

Hoping someone can help me see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I would wait personally. You might find a job that's okay with time off, you might find one that's not. So if you end up needing to quit, looking "flighty" to potential employers, plus you might need to leave a job you love.

i'd take the time to enjoy your "free time" then after you're done you can really settle into real life here (work etc).

I'm kind of thinking that way too.

Thank you for your response.

I have very often seen a new hire take time off because of planned events before being hired. A company that is upset or refuses to hire because of that, is probably a company that has a lot more burdensome policies. In other words most likely a company you don't want to work for any way. Just let them know when the job offer comes, and I think you'll find most companies are fine with it.

Finally heard back from my husband ... (he's on a ship in the Gulf of Mexico... can't communicate all the time).

Husband says, "Take care of our house for now, and don't worry about anything else". good.gif

And that's the final deciding factor really.

Happy St. Patties...!
