Hi guys,

I plan to arrive to the US in May on my K-1 visa and to file AOS forms in the middle of or late June. How much time will it take us until I can work, travel, driven? In other words, how much time does it take to get AOS papers approved? Thanks

The time depends on so many factors. Generally speaking for your EAD "employment authorization document" and travel parole " travel permit" within 90days of filing AOS. Conditional Green Card several months ! some people got it as early as 3 months and for some people it's been 7 months and its still bending !

Good luck

Normally the work permit arrive within 60 days after your AoS filling. With the AP/EAD combo card, you can get a driver license, you can start working or travel while your GC is still pending

Thanks a lot for your reply! Do you mean that an interview is optional? And when does it take place?

How much would such a combo card cost?

Yes, for k1 visa holders, the interview can be waive but is only up to the USCIS. There's nothing we can do for have it waive or not. They make the decision base on what? i dont know what kind of criteria the use to make this choice. If the unterview is NOT waive usually take place the first 5 month, always after the biometrics

Thanks a lot for your reply!

How much would such a combo card cost? Usually 60 to 70 days after the biometrics and ut doesnt cost a thing, they are include in the fee of the i485. And they optional too

When you file AOS I 485 you would want to file for EAD and TP. Within 90 days of filing you should receive the EAD card and TP. The cost for all the applications $985. (Add $85 biometric fee for a total of $1070)

Thanks a lot! From what I've understood, AOS fee was around 1100$ + around 360 for Travel Parole and about 300$ for work permit

No if you file all those three applications at the same time they will not charge you for the EAD and TP only for the I485 which is 1070$.

If you decide to file EAD I765 and I131 465$ for each

SO you file all of them at the same time !

Nope. The fees for Advance Parole and Employment Authorization Document are waived if filing concurrently with AOS - that makes $1070 total. Check the guides at the top of this page. Good luck.

The fees are waived with a pending I-485. That means you can still apply for the EAD and AP after already filing the I-485 and the fees will still be waived. You do not have to mail them altogether for them to be free. Just send in a copy of your NOA receipt notice for filing the I-485 with the I-765 and I-131 forms.

Ok, I will, thank you!

Interviews are not "optional", meaning it is not YOUR option whether you have one or not. USCIS does not interview all applicants for the Adjustment of Status, some receive a green card in the mail with no interview. You will either get the green card in the mail OR you will get an interview letter in the mail. No one knows which.

There are no interviews for the AP (travel document) or the EAD (work authorization) and if you apply for both at the same time you will receive a "combo card". The combo card is no longer needed after you get your green card.

There is no such thing as a "temporary green card" there is a "conditional" 2 year, and unconditional, 10 year, green card. All benefits and privileges are identical but the conditional card requires a renewal and review of your case after 2 years. Once the conditions are lifted and you receive the 10 year card, you will be given "credit" for being a resident from the date your first card is issued.

Your 10 year card then becomes a "1 year card" for most people as they file for citizenship 1 year after that.
