She can stay as long as needed in the Philippines for her studies. U S citizens don't have to worry about being out of the country for too long.

is she leaving the USA on her USA passport and entering the PI on her PI passport? No Visa on the USA passport for such a long stay?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

she can stay outside of the USA for any length of time as a US Citizen.

There's some slippery slope for her, for which country she's a citizen of , when entering the PI - so plan accordingly.

I don't know what to tell you about it - except that she's gonna have to 'do' stuff.

Same case as my brother, he will be in the Philippines end of the month to take summer course(He is on 3rd year), he did not finish his BSN degree, and will continue this year.

Applying for dual citizenship in Philippine Embassy takes 1 whole day.

In the morning they will process the application papers then on the Afternoon they will do the oath taking.

It will not ruined her US Citizenship, mostly of the Filipinos who wants to continue their studies back home in the Philippines do the Dual Citizenship instead of Student Visa.

If your doing it in Chicago it will probably be an all day process. She will have to fill out some paperwork and then take the oath. There is a fee of $50.00 , the worst part of the whole process is going to Chicago

She is transfereing 3 years of credits from physical therapy to bsn and it will maybe cut it down to a year in a half maybe.

As others have noted, I'll confirm legally you can stay outside of the USA as long as you want, or forever.

I know people with US passports that have never set foot in the United States. It happens for many valid reasons.

The key is knowing everything that goes with being a citizen of the Philippines re:taxes, gov't service, etc. (I don't know the legal specifics for that country.)

Several folks here have responded with more info which is awesome. Make sure your spouse fully understands all that might be required (which very well could be nothing at all.)

Good luck.
