National Rifle Association, Texas Motor Speedway align for NASCAR Sprint Cup NRA 500 race

It was announced Monday the National Rifle Association will be the title sponsor for the Texas 500 Sprint Cup Series race to be held at Texas Motor Speedway on April 13.

The one-year agreement between the gun-rights advocacy group and TMS has a renewal option, and the annual spring NASCAR race will be re-branded the NRA 500.

The announcement of the partnership between the NRA and TMS comes less than a month after NASCAR announced that the No. 26 car driven by Michael Waltrip at the Daytona 500 would honor the 26 victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn. last December. The sides of the car featured decals that encouraged fans to pledge donations to the Sandy Hook Support Fund.

The NRA was at the center of an escalated debate about gun control in the aftermath of the shooting.

"The NRA has been involved in the sport for several years and a partner of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. for many years in various aspects, and this race entitlement is just another extension of that business relationship," TMS president Eddie Gossage said in a statement. "We look forward to another successful partnership with the NRA for our April race week of activities."

In a video announcement at TMS on Monday, NRA executive vice president Wayne LaPierre said, "The NRA 500 is the latest announcement in the long history of a growing partnership between the NRA, Speedway Motorsports and the NASCAR community. NRA members and NASCAR fans love their country and everything that is good and right about America. We salute our flag, volunteer at our churches and communities, cherish our families and we love racing."

According to a news release by TMS, the NRA has had a relationship with the NASCAR industry for more than a decade. The organization supports the children's charities of SMI Speedway, Inc., which owns TMS.

You will be safe at this event for sure. Now a Democrat rally in a guns free zone in the Presidents home city.. You would be taking your life in your own hands. But oddly you hate and fear the people at the safe rally.. That's odd isn't it.
