I met my boyfriend online on xbox live in late 2007. We started dating February 2, 2009 and first met each other inperson in June 2010. Since 2010, we have continued to have regular visits during the winter and summer vacation times because we are both students. My boyfriend decided to halt his schooling and start working because we want to get married. However, I'm not working but plan to find a job after this semester. I still live at home with my parents who are at the moment paying my way through college. My boyfriend has been working since November 2012 and has some money saved up in effort to file for the k-1. Is there any chance that we might be denied the K-1 visa because I am a full time student? Any tips or advice?

You must be working and making at least 125% of the poverty guidelines at the time of the interview (or have enough assets and prove that you'll be able to find work before they run out, or in any other way convince them that you will be able to support your fiancee). Some consulates accept a co-sponsor who promise to support you and your fiancee, but this is not guaranteed and you might be denied anyways for not having any income. In any case, you only have to prove finances at the consulate stage at the interview. You can file the petition if you think that you would be working and making enough by that time (in around 6 months).

Montreal and Vancouver I think are okay with co-sponsors. You can pop over into the Canada regional forum if you have some questions there as well. We have lots of K1 and CR1/IR1 filers. :D It's a little slow on weekends though.

I know this is in the K1 forum but I want to mention before deciding on a K1 or CR1 route you both should think about a few things. How much time and money do you want to put into a wedding? Is it important where it is? Is it important who is there? Is it important for the Canadian half to start working right away? Or being able to travel right away? Do we have to live together after marriage or can we wait a little while? Some of the I-130 petitions are going much faster than the I-129F right now.

You didn't say which of you is the Canadian beneficiary and which is the USC. The consulate will not care about the Canadian working. (just read on your profile that you are the USC and your fiance is the Canadian... ;) )

My husband is the USC. We wanted me to be able to work right away and travel right away. It is also cheaper to do the CR1 in direct immigration costs. BUT I have to fly to Montreal for the interview because Vancouver (which is closer) does not do CR1 visa interviews. That's why we chose to get married first. Also I wanted my mom to marry us and she can only do that in BC. :)

If the canadian conulate accepts co-sponsers, then you don't need a job or income, but I think your co-sponser will be obligated to pay for him in the event he qualifies for any US government aid for either 10 years of working or until he becomes a US Citizen, which, once he is married to you and living with you for 3 years, he can apply.

I am the USC.
