Does anyone know how long it takes for one to get their social security after they enter the country. I went to the social security office and I was told the immigration hasn't started processing mine yet and they would need approval from them before they can go ahead and it would take about 4wks to just get that approval.thnx

God is love!

How long did you wait to go to the SS Office after your arrival? They need a few days to enter your info in the data system. Both the guides and members here advice to wait about two weeks, and then apply for the SS#.

I went 10 days after I arrived in the US and got my SS Card in less than two weeks. After getting married, I went to the SS Office again with proof of my name change (marriage certificate), and got the updated card after 7 days.

I've also read here that if you apply for the SS# before they have you in the system, you'll force them to do the verification manually, which will slow down the process! Maybe wait a few days a go try again?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
