Expect this to take up to a year. If your parents are old and presumably cannot work full time for at least 10 years and pay into SS during this time, expect then to either be denied immigrant visas or go bankrupt paying for their medical bills.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

sorry I don't have answers for you but I'm wondering what documents did you fill out aside from Form I-130?

On the USCIS website it only say 1. Form I-130, 2. A copy of your birth certificate showing your name and your mother’s name, and 3. A copy of your Certificate of Naturalization or U.S. passport if you were not born in the United States.

Is there any other forms/documents i am missing? any help is appreciated. TIA

from USCIS receipt to approval could take anywhere from 1-7 months depending on USCIS workload. After that, ur file is sent to NVC and there, you kind of control the pace cos they move based on how fast you get needed payments and documents to them ( and of course their work load too).

for the NVC stage, you need civil documents like their birth certificates( original and copies), marriage certificates ( original and copies), divorce papers for them if applicable, your own birth and marriage/ divorce certfs if applicable.

go to the guides on this website and study it .

yes you need to send in both original AND photocopy to NVC. They will keep the copy in your file and return the originals at the interview(except for those doing electronic processing I think). They warn that they have the right to retain the original IF copies are not included.

I have had my originals go through NVC twice ( for mom and my employment petitions) and each time got it back at the embassy.

I feel you. The first time (about 6 years ago) I was so worried too that mine would be lost enroute from Nigeria to the attorney ( my employment agency hired) then to NVC...but i was so deperate I had to overcome that fear especially since it was a requirement LOL.

Thanks ndu26 :) Also it stated from the website original docs or certified copies. Which one is it? Certified copies mean the docs get translated by a certified translator or meaning something else? Thanks again, you know everything ndu :)

Hi guys,

I just filled petition for my parents. I'm USC. Just wondering what to expect, that way I can prepare early. Thank you for being part of our journey. :)

Does your parents have passports already? They will also be required to submit their NSO birth and marriage certificates, NBI clearances and Police Certificates (if applicable).
