I haven't received an NOA2 yet but was wondering, Do we need to send in the original marriage certificate and beneficiary birth certificate? Or can we send in a color photocopy of those 2 documents instead. I'm a litte apprehensive about sending in the originals to NVC and have them lose our originals. Don't they usually ask for the original during the interview at the embassy. I know certified copy is accepted but sometimes those can be hard to get. What are you guys opinions?

Ok you just got confused by a wrong answer. You can send in copies to USCIS with your I-130 petition.

BUT Documents sent to NVC MUST be originals, can NOT be copies. You can send in certified copies, but those have to be certified from the issuing agency. For example, the birth certificate needs to be certified by the birth registrar of the issuing country.

NEVER send originals to USCIS but NVC MUST have originals of all your civil documents or certified true copies from issuing agency of that document. when sending in the originals make sure you include copies of ALL your originals( I would'nt make colored copies to avoid mix ups). Once copies are included, the originals are returned to the applicant at the interview.

I have done this twice and no problems:

when my employment agency petitoned for me in 2006( i got my originals back at the embassy)

when I petitioned for my mom in 2011. she received ALL our orignals at her interview
