Hello all

Just wondering if I could get an idea of how the experienced folks here would handle this timing issue.

My fiance lives in Italy. We are in the blind spot of waiting for out noa2. We know can be from 4-8 months. But ...My fiance told his boss of his plans to move to America and get get married. For my fiance to received back pay and pension. He must leave his job on good terms and give two months notice.

We are wondering of the general timing of how much time passes between the time you get your noa2 and the interview. We would like to plan it that he gives notice, and there is a short period of time that we go to napoli and he would not HAVE to return to work. But I know that is tuff. My thought is he should give his notice when we receive the NOA2. But my fiance feels it should be now. But we only receive our NOA1 on Dec 13th! We are just beginning our waiting... I feel we have at least 5 more months to go....

Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

you all still have a looooooooong time to wait. Several months. I would wait until you at least have NOA2.

After your visa is approved, you must enter the States within 6 months. So he could even wait until his visa was in his hand before he gave his 2 months notice to his job.

It seems to me, just from looking at the timelines on this site, that it usually takes at least 2 months from noa2 until the interview anyway. Therefore I would wait until the recipt of the noa2 before notifying the employer.

It can easily take 2 months from NOA2 to the interview. Since you just got your NOA1 - it could be a while so I would tell him to wait.

Keep in mind, when he gets here he won't be able to work for a while. It takes approx 90 days to get your EAD - after filing AOS. I felt like we did things pretty quick - my hubby came here a week after his interview. We got married about 6 weeks later and then filed AOS. He got here July 5, and he got his EAD end of November and got a job this week. My point to all of this is, it has been almost 8 months since he worked. (not because he didn't want to, but because that is just how long it takes)

Once he gets the visa it is going to take time before he works again - so I wouldn't quit too soon. Even when its not about the money, it was hard for my husband to be home all day while I was at work.

I think quitting now would only make the wait for the NOA2 seem even longer.

I would definitely wait at least until you get NOA2. After you get NOA2, your petition still needs to go to NVC and then be forwarded to the Consulate. Check the timelines of the people who have gone through Naples before. When you are ready to schedule your visa interview, the Visa Information Service lets you do that for the current month or the next calendar month. Additionally, the K1 visa is valid for entry in the US for 6 months after issuance. That would give your fiance plenty of time for giving notice before quitting.
