Witness Describes Old Sacramento Shooting, Confrontation with Gunman

SACRAMENTO-

Cameo Stover was just out enjoying a night in Old Sacramento, celebrating New Year’s Eve when she found herself just a few feet from a deadly shooting inside the Sports Corner bar on K Street.

Police have identified the shooter as 22-year-old Carlito Montoya.

“I saw a man die. I saw (Montoya) empty two clips in (the bartender’s) body,” said Stover.

Stover remembers hearing the gun pop and seeing the flash, paralyzed with fear she just watched the horrific act unfold.

“I saw the bartender, I saw all the bullets hit his body and a couple glasses fell, that’s when I saw the bartender stumble and fall then I saw the man come up over him,” said Stover.

An armed security guard heard the commotion and rushed in, pulling his gun on the Montoya. The two exchanged gun fire; both were struck and wounded. Stover realized that Montoya was about to run past her and she fled the area, screaming to families to hide.

“Kids running around, saying, ‘I can’t find my mom,’ people huddling over their strollers, people screaming,” said Stover.

A bouncer saw Stover and pulled her into a bar for safety. Bars along K Street were on lockdown for close to 30 minutes while police secured the scene. When people were allowed to leave, Stover noticed a man in handcuffs, she recognized him as the shooter and felt compelled to express her anger with him.

“I wanted to say something so bad. I didn’t want this man to leave not knowing what he did he hurt a lot of people last night, affected a lot of people,” said Stover.

She crawled under the crime tape and got Montoya’s attention.

“I crossed the police line, which I was not supposed to do, and I went and faced him. I called him out and said, ‘hey’ and he looked up at me and the police officers also looked up also. I told him, ‘you hurt a lot of people here tonight’ and then I said some other words and he called me a foul name,” said Stover.

Expressing her anger and fear helped with Stover cope with what she saw.

Two people lost their lives at the Sports Corner bar, the bartender and another man, whose wife was injured in the gunfire.

Montoya was shot, along with the security guard who rushed in. Patrons, family and friends have been bringing flowers and candles by to remember the lives lost.

Montoya is being treated for his wounds.

that's potentially a lot of lead purposefully placed into a single body.

gotta be more to the story ... kinda sounds like a hit or someone had a serious axe to grind with the bartender

either way, the shooter obviously didn't care about murder being illegal ...

sad part is the shooter will probably be given a "pass" by the CA criminal justice system.

Tragic. what is wrong with folks Here is another senseless New Years Eve Murder

My link

etails are emerging from what deputies in Baxter County, Arkansas call a homicide on New Year's Eve. The sheriff's office says Lisa Kay Smith was beaten to death with a claw hammer and a knife. She was still breathing, though unconscious, when deputies arrived to the home in Salesville on a domestic disturbance call. Her head was covered with blood.

Smith was taken to a local hospital, then transferred to Springfield, where she was pronounced dead.

The sheriff says a man believed to be Smith's boyfriend, David Craig Smith, was arrested while hiding out in a neighbor's yard. He's been charged with murder.

Most murders are senseless. A large number are also gun related. But let's hug our guns tight and post stories about people being murdered by OTHER things to make ourselves feel better. See? Other things are dangerous sometimes in the hands of the wrong people! See? It's not just the guns. Please let me have a stockpile of weapons... please? I need them. For, you know, the reasons.
