Hi,

I've been perusing through some of the topics here about the barcode but i had one specific question about the barcode on the DS156 form. My lawyer is preparing my K1 visa form and their staff said since they don't submit it through the website there is no barcode, and that I will have to send the forms to my fiance in his country and he will submit it to the embassy in Pakistan and pay them the fee. Does he pay with the forms now that he submits with his Packet 3.5 or does he wait until he goes to the interview to pay the fee for the form?

Thanks!

Dear Muniza,

Here is the revised link to Electronic Served DS 156 form,

Once you fill the whole form carefully, simply click there at the "Continue" button, printer shall print out the BARCODE Page, you don't need to worry about this.

That shall definitely be printed out. I have checked it again.

Moreover, your fiance wouldn't pay the fee along with Packet 3.5, he would have to submit at the instant of interview session. He shall simply need to 1500 PKR to American Express for sending his Packet 3.5.

Good Luck !

Regards,

Hamza

Fill out the form as the post above says and make sure you make no changes to the form after you have submitted it. Or you will have to do it again. Once you submit the form a specialized barcode is generated to associate the information that was entered to the form that is being submitted. Later the embassy uses the barcode to recall the information that was entered. It is advised to submit this info and generate the barcode form regardless of what the underperforming Highly paid lawyer says.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to fill out the form myself then.

As for generating two copies for the DS156 forms, do i have to do it both times through the website and get 2 separate barcodes for each copy? Or I just do it once and use a copier to make an additional copy?

I just got back from the American Express Visa Services Office at Shaheen Complex in Karachi. They just charge you a service charge of PKR 1250 for sending it to the US Embassy, then you will have to pay the fees at the physical interview. Seriously, I used a lawyer for the first part of my visa petition, and they are so incompetent. I'm working by myself from here on out. Also, there are some seriously misinformed people working at the American Express Visa Services Office, at first they told me for Form DS 156 "Oh, why did you use this form, it is out of date" and I was like, no way, I checked the list of forms which Packet 3.5 requests, and this was the one which they specifically requested, and twice on top of that. Then they actually went on to check the site and were like, oh ok, I guess this is the form they are using again. Seriously, I was so nervous there for a few minutes, hoping I hadn't filled out the wrong form for my fiancee, but in the end they took all the documentation I provided and gave me a receipt. I was also told that the Embassy would receive it by tomorrow. SN530, thanks for all your help, shukria bhai. Now hopefully the last part of the wait game begins, waiting for Packet 4 with the Interview Date. Anyone know how long is the estimated wait time for that?

Hi! Would it be a problem if I add some 'specific' information on the DS-156? I answered all information using the computer but there's one question that needs specific answer such as, 'when do you intend to arrive in the US'? I would like to put 'As soon after I receive my visa' as an answer but I would use a pen to add it since it requires specific dates when you fill it up using the computer.

Is it okay?

Thanks and God bless!

in all your ways submit to Him,

Hey Lai from what I've read I don't think you can write anything because the document has to be electronically filled. I had no exact date so I just estimated a random date for the next month.

Thanks everyone else for the reply! Very helpful. Shakgill if you get to your interview before me can you let me know how much you end up paying for the fee in rupees so I can let my fiancé know to take some amount with him? It would be nice if I could just pay online now so he doesn't have to go through the hassle later.

Do not hand write info on the DS-156. The barcode that is generated is from the info you input. Follow the example form: http://www.visajourney.com/examples/Form-DS-156.pdf

#22 also states to provide a specific date if known. You do not have a specific date, so leave it blank.
