CR-1 Visa for Visits

I was wondering if it is possible to apply for the CR-1 visa and then just to use it for visits with the intention of immigrating later on.

I (US citizen) live with my fiance in Mali. We don't necessarily want to move to the USA right away but it would be nice for him to go with me when I go visit my family there. I know that when you arrive on a CR-1 visa, they send a temporary (2 year) green card to your house. So we could go on a longish vacation and then come back to Mali and then apply for a long term green card when the time comes. We do eventually want to move to the States, just not now.

Is this possible? Has anyone done this?

12/27/12 - Married in Bamako, Mali

11/12/13 - I-130 package sent

11/15/13 - NOA1

05/27/14 - NOA2

06/16/14 - Case received NVC

07/01/14 - Case number assigned

07/21/14 - DS-261 completed

07/25/14 - AOS bill paid

07/30/2014 - AOS package sent

08/18/2014 - add-on AOS package sent (learned that I should have sent 2 separate I-864s even though the cases are joined...oops!)

09/19/2014 - IV bill paid

09/26/2014 - AOS checklist received

11/09/2014 - DS 260 completed online

12/22/2014 - AOS checklist package and IV documents scan date

03/02/2015 - Case Complete!!! (70 days)

04/02/2015 - Interview in Dakar (221g - Needed to verify a court document)

04/21/2015- Visas in hand!!

No thats not how it works. You said fiance' but you are talking about the IR1/CR1 that is for married couples. CR1 is issued for those married under 2 years at time of interview, IR1 is for couples married over the 2 year mark.

A Visa is for living in the US and you must be here in the US longer than out or you could lose your greencard.

You should really read through the guides about living abroad and your options and the requirements. Good luck

If that is your plan to just visit you would be better serve to try a tourist visa and hope for the best. Sorry.

Short Answer is NO.

Applying to CR-1 visa means that intent of beneficiary is to live (become permanent resident) in US.

However, applying for visitor visa, while having a pending case with CR-1, would contradict your intention of petitioning in CR-1.

Thus, applying for Visitor visa while having an immigration petition will simply not work.

Thanks for your replies. Sorry for the confusion, I did say fiance but we'll be getting married next month so we will be applying for CR-1 later. And I did read through the guides, just wasn't able to easily find this information.
