I really don't believe in the flu shot. WE have never gotten one before & Don't understand why it is a requirement for the Visa. Our interview date is December 13th at the Consulate in Montreal. Our Immigration DR appointment is in Montreal on the 7th of December... What I'm wondering, has anyone been turned down a Visa because they haven't had a Flu shot?

Really? oh I read it on one of the U.S government websites under vaccination requirements, but it didn't indicate what was required for CR-1 visas specifically. That would be great because I really don't think it's necessary.

This is for the PANEL PHYSICIANS in Toronto and clearly states that Flu shots are required for anyone 6 months or older. This is for Dr. Seiden in Toronto but I dont' think it would be different in other places. I don't know for sure though.

I am a firm believer in vaccinations, including Flu shots, but I understand those who choose not to participate. However, I would not want to take the risk in this situation and wind up with a failed medical because I am not willing to be vaccinated against a communicable disease. I'm not sure what exceptions they make.

flu shot isn't a requirement. where did you read that? My husband was only required to have MMR Polio and tetanus

Your husband was not required to get his flu vaccine only because of when his interview was (July).

My link

For purposes of the immigration medical examination, the flu season starts on October 1 and ends on March 31 each year. If your immigration medical examination is during this period, you are required to have the seasonal flu vaccine. If you have an immigration medical examination completed between April 1 and September 30, when it is not the flu season for immigration purposes, you are not required to document that you have received the seasonal flu vaccine.

Reading further down in the above link I found this:

Q. What will happen if I refuse to receive one or all of the required vaccines?

A. Tell the civil surgeon if you do not wish to receive the required vaccines or a particular vaccine. You should also tell the civil surgeon the reason you do not wish to receive the vaccine(s). In this case, a waiver may be available to you, but only under the following circumstances:

You are opposed to vaccinations in any form– that is, you cannot obtain a waiver based on an objection only as to one vaccination

Your objection must be based on religious beliefs or moral convictions; and

The religious or moral beliefs must be sincere.

The form used to apply for a waiver depends on the adjustment category under which you are seeking legal permanent residence status. For example, refugees and asylees seeking adjustment of status should file Form I-602, Application by Refugee for Waiver of Grounds of Excludability. Individuals seeking adjustment of status as a result of an approved Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative, or Form I-140, Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker, would file Form I-601, Application for Waiver of Grounds of Inadmissibility.

Its flu season, so you need to get the flu shot. You can file a waiver, but you'll add months to your process and you will very likely be denied anyways. Unfortunately, if you want your visa you need to comply, they don't care. Back when I went through the process they required the HPV vaccination for anyone under 26, which I was not thrilled about, but I had no choice. In comparison, the flu shot is really not a big deal.

BCCanadaGirl... I feel the same way as you. Both my husband and I are not happy about me being force vaccinated. Unfortunately, our interview is December (so during flu season). So, I've had to make the difficult decision to get my shot done next week. I am NOT happy.

All the best to you and your man.

Ya know the US govt gives the flu shot to ALL of their military so it doesn't surprise me that they require immigrants to have it either. Sucks but this will be the only time in your life you're forced to have it. If you think about it, it's not exactly a huge price to pay in the long run.
