Hello Everyone,

Our NOA1 receipt date was 4/24/12. Last week I did a Service Request and today I got a response: It say: "Based on your request we researched the status of this case. We are actively processing this case. However, we have to perform additional review on this case and this has caused a longer processing time. If you do not receive a decision or other notice of action from us within 6 months of this letter, please contact customer service at the number provided below."

What does this mean?! What Should we do! Please help!

You could try getting your State's senior US Senator's office to make an inquiry but don't expect it to make anything happen any faster. It appears to be a case specific delay. Usually those involve delays in name check processes.

Thank you! What does a name check entail?

Hi folks,

So yesterday I got my response to a Service Request I had done last week. It says "Based on your request we researched the status of this case. We are actively processing this case. However, we have to perform additional review on this case and this has caused a longer processing time. If you do not receive a decision or other notice of action from us within 6 months of this letter, please contact customer service at the number provided below."

It's been almost 7 months since our NOA1. Someone suggested that Vermont Service Center is "doing a name check". Does anyone know how long does this take? When should I expect to hear form VSC again?

Thanks for your help in advance

This is most helpful! Thanks a bunch! Just curious, do you know how long this will take?

The time it takes varies with each set of case circumstances. It has already taken several extra weeks and COULD take several more months. Filing a petition is like a black hole. There's really no information available until something comes out the other end.

Thank you for specifying 'state senior us senator' so many people keep saying congressman and I really had no idea what congressman they were talking about.

"You" only have one Congressman who serves the district you live in but they have to be re-elected every two years. Your State's two senators serve the whole state. The one who has been serving longer, has the most political power. Either way, you'll be dealing with their staff, not the Senator or Congressman.

I googled state senior senator for illinois and got ####### durbin.

It says in his profile that he's the state's senior senator.

But you say, based on "district" that he may not be?

So confused

Read again. Every State has two senators who serve the whole State, but a "Congressman" is a member of the House of Representatives, and represents only his own district. Time to learn a little about the US Government.

If you say I should contact my state senior senator, that is NOT the person in the house of representatives so I think you actually made it more confusing by stating that. You would instead say I need to contact my congressional district representative.
