Hi!

I was employed the past 5 years till a few weeks ago, I had trouble w/ babysitting for my 6 year-old son. So, I decided to quit my job. I have been a full-time student at a local community college since Aug, 2011. I major in Criminal Justice & have 1 more year to finish my Associate degree.

I have an interview with Metro Police Department for a volunteer position in 2 days. I figure I would need experience when I graduate. I'm currently taking 3 classes right now and will be taking 5 classes next Spring '13 semester.

How I can support myself is I have child support, student loans & federal financial aid. Most importantly, I am not a spender.

Does being unemployed affect my citizenship process? Would it be acceptable to the USCIS that I'm a full-time student and volunteering for the States?

Thank you so much!

Shouldn't be a problem, they are not basing your citizenship on whether you're employed or whether you volunteer or are a student. I assume though that you listed your past employment and schools on the application.

No problems at all, I got laid off, received unemployment and a student. and everything went so smooth.

You are good to go, just make sure you mention that you quit to the officer at the interview if you did not put that in the form already so they can update it.

Good luck............

Being employed is not a qualifier for becoming an American.

If that was the case, no billionaire could become an American.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
