I stayed in the US for a year with the J1 visa. Started dating my now fiancé since September 2011, I arrived in the US last May of 2011 and left May 2012 and filed 129-F last week of Sept 2012 and received NOA1 October 3,2012. If God permits and in God's time more or less I'll have my consulate interview March or May 2013 then it will be 10 months or a year passed since we saw each other and he's not planning to visit here in the Philippines since he just acquired a new job and can't do a leave and also airfare is a bit expensive. I know that the requirement is just you have to meet within two years but does my situation affects the future visa approval? Will they question why we haven't seen each other for 10 months and will just rely on getting the visa to see each other? Any J1 visa holders before? Or any one who has the same situation? Thank you for your further assistance. By the way, our packet flew to Vermont, but it's okay. :( lol

No, you should not have any problem: you have fulfilled the requirement for the petition application and that is to have met within the tow years preceding the date of the application. The embassy will however want proof of an ongoing relationship: one way of keeping a relationship is to vist each other, but this is not always possible for reasons which include issues that you have mentioned in your post. But, there are other ways of having a long-distance relationship, calls, e-mails, letters etc. So, if you can prove that you are in contact and communicate all the time, then you should not have any trouble with respect to not visiting each other over 10 months of waiting for your visa approval. Good luck

Yes I have everything and will have everything; call logs, emails, Skype, we talk everyday. I just hope the reasons we have are valid enough. The waiting game begins. Thank you so much for your input, it helps! May you have a smooth journey.

I agree. This may not apply to ALL countries, but I believe it should be alright for Philippines.

By the way, as a suggestion, if you add your NOA1 date to your Timeline, you will get an estimated date of approval for the petition. That date, while it's not THE exact date, will help you have a better idea about when things will start moving again and even calculate a possible interview date.

Not an issue. My wife and I only saw each other for 10 days for our in person meeting and then next time we personally saw each other was 10 months later when they arrived.
