She's not that small anymore (grew 3.25" and gained 2.5 lbs in the first six weeks) and she is getting sweeter every day. These days she always gives me this big ole' smile when I come home from work. Melts a daddy's heart...

If people tell you that your kids are beautiful, please dont take it seriously because you never hear them tell someone that their baby is ugly. So you know they are not being honest..just being nice.

But I think inter-racial kids look nice..as do all kids.

Well I'm cherokee but not full-blooded... so there is the cherokee and white... their dad's mom was vietnamese and his dad was a black american soldier in the war.... there are the other two races... people tell me all the time how beautiful my kids are and comment that if that's what happens when we blend the races then they're all for it

I was actually reading something (on VJ?) the other day about how in a hundred or a thousand years or something there will just be one major race/skin tone because this "blending" has become such common practice.

As for siblings of different skin tone, there's nothing strange about it. (Especially when the parents are of different race!) Even for fraternal twins. Heck, my parents are both caucasian, but my Father is whiter than my Mum. He's English. People are blinded whenever he takes his shirt off! My sister is white like him. My Mum has Irish blood, and she's darker. I got darker skin than even her. But still white. My sister's hair stayed blonder, and mine has more red. We're a year apart.

I saw a photo of the british twins and they are gorgeous, there was another story awhile back on dateline i believe about a mother having twins and they had different skin colors as well. Reinhard's baby is so gorgeous too

Why is this story so odd? I think it's quite normal, and wouldn't bat an eyelid. There have been MANY cases like this in the past. I hope they're making some money out of it. My brothers are twins. They don't even look like they come from the same family. I did have a chuckle to myself as the subtitle to this thread says: "In a rare occurrence, boys inherited different genetic codes from moth"

I dont find anything "odd" in this and would assume as mixed marriages increase then this statistical oddity will increase proportionally.

Skin color usually mixes. So it's considered a rare occurence for this to happen. So it is 'odd' to happen. The population of the world increases every second so this will happen more and more but it still will be rare overall.

I think it's not so much just that the kids are fraternal twins. That's not that unusual. It's that they're fraternal twins who are about as opposite in color palettes as one might expect!

According to another article I read about this, there's seven genes that control skin color, and the 'pale' alleles are all mostly recessive. So what you'd expect is sort of a mix between the mom & dad's skin tones, whatever the race of the parents. The extremes on either are sort of rare.

The ninth-grade hand-wavy explanation of what happened is that the mom, who is biracial, had one rare egg with seven light-color alleles, and one rare egg with all dark-color alleles, the dad's alleles are all lighter, *and* both of those rare eggs released at the same time to make fraternal twins. Plus hair color and eye color!

My African wife and I just had a baby. She's fairly light skinned thus far. Somewhat darker than me but certainly lighter than her mom. She does, however, carry her mother's African genes. As she does my caucasian genes. So, her kids down the road can be either white or dark or mixed if she would have them with either a white or black or mixed father. Nothing unusual or suspicous about it.
