Ballpark estimate on when the I-131 goes into effect?

I'm in the process of filing the I-130/I-485 paperwork for my wife who's here in the the states on a B1/B2 visa. As I understand it, once I put in the paperwork, her current B1/B2 visa won't be valid anymore. If we need to travel while waiting for the adjustment of status, I would need to file the I-131.

I'm wondering if anyone could give me a ballpark figure as to when the I-131 will get approved and we can go ahead to leave the states? I only ask because we need to go overseas for business, so we're just trying to plan ahead.

you should submit it with your i485 because the travel authorization comes on a 'combo' card with your EAD. i have heard that this ensures both are granted within 90 days but not sure if that is true. good luck!

It's also important to note that if someone has accrued at least 180 days of overstay then a ban will trigger when they leave and AP from an I-131 will not overcome this ban.

In short, if you have at least six months of overstay, do not leave the US until your green card (or an I-551 stamp) is in your hands.
