Im new here but very nervouse because Im in the process of sending off the I-864 and am having some problems understanding what qualifies the co sponsor or total house hold income . I was under the impression that it was the household income combined for the ammount of dependants that live in the home . Is this correct ? If not can the co sponsor claim 2 of the 3 people I am applying for because I make enough for 2 since I was layed off last year for 6 months . I am working steady now but all I will have are pay stubs and a letter of my predicted income from the employer until tax time comes in january when I get 2012 w2s . I have 2400 from 2011 transcripts for nvc as of now ... need help asap Thank you for this forum !!!!

Your post is a bit confusing.

A joint sponsor has to earn enough for their household size plus the immigrant.

Thanks for the speedy response , I understand now , I was just wondering if my step father and mother filing jointly was going to be a problem and since my mothers income was on there also could it have been used to help bump up the amount of dependents. I understand now that the co sponsor must make 125 percent alone without combining with the spouses income . I am trying to bring my wife and her 2 children home from venezuela and I made 24000 thousand last year and my step father made about 38000 last year and I fear that is going to be short of what is needed .When using a co sponsor do sponsor and co sponsor write the names of all the people that I applied for or just the ones they wish to sponsor ? I was told to write all names on both 864 and 864a forms .

If you are applying for a K-1 visa, then why are you using the I-864? Did the consulate specifically tell you to use that affidavit of support? The I-134 is the one used for a K-1 interview. Oh wait, I see you put K-1 in your profile and posted in the K-1 forum, but you say you are trying to bring your wife and her kids, so you are actually doing a spousal visa, not a K-1.

What are your current incomes, not last year's? You list your current annual income and provide a letter from employer and most recent pay stub(s) to prove the current income amount. You fill out your I-864 and your step father fills out his own I-864. If your mother needs to combine her income with your step father's to meet the 125%, then she will fill out an I-864A to go along with your step father's I-864. The I-864 instructions tell you how to count household size, and here are the poverty guidelines: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-864p.pdf

The co-sponsor must have income to support the 3 plus themselves for a total of 4. It cannot be split between two people. The purpose of the co-sponsor is one who mets the requirements that you don't.

Actually, with the I-864 they can split up the sponsorship. A joint sponsor can submit an I-864 to sponsor all or some of the intending immigrants. There can be up to 2 joint sponsors. The OP can read about it in the I-864 instructions I linked above.

My income will be enough to suport the whole family as long as pay stubs and a letter from my employer will be enough to get approved . Thank you all so much . I just so frustrated and all the hoops you have to jump through. I miss my family big time

Yes, those will work. Check page 7 of the I-864 instructions. It tells about current annual income and what documents you can provide to prove it.

OP, change your profile to reflect the actual visa that you are seeking. K1 is a fiance visa and the steps and forms are different. Having the right info will help you get better answers.

*Moved from K1 forum to IR1/CR1 forum. OP is married and seeking a spouse visa*
