GC name change

Hello everyone! :)

I'll fill for ROC in approximately 3 months. My conditional GC is in my first name, my middle name (my maiden name) and my last name (my husband's last name). I want my permanent GC to be in my first name and my last name (my husband's last name) only. What will I have to do to make this happen?

Thank you!

As you are changing your name most likely you will need a court order.

I changed my SS information (for the exact same reason) and had no problems.

How about filing my I-751 in my first name and my last name (my husband's last name) only? Will I get RFE-ed or denied?

Anybody?

We are also planning to change wife's last name to my last name. With this plan, we got her name changed in her foreign passport, which became due for renewal. I don't think we need a court order to change the last name to husbands last name. I am planning to complete I-751 with my last name in part 1 under "Family Name (Last Name)" and enter her name using her maiden last name in item 1 of Part 3 under "Other Names Used (Including maiden name):", which should be sufficient along with a copy of the marraige certificate, copy of the foreign passport with name change. I don't think changing the last name is an issue - the more important things they will be looking at are the inter-migling of financial assets to ensure that the marraige is genuine.

This way we can avoid a fee of around USD 485 required to change the name right now. We will be filing I-751 on July 1st, 2013 (90 days before GC expiry date). we generally will get an extension of the GC for an year as the process takes 9 - 10 months. Hopw someone who actually filed with name change will share their experience.
