Hi,

I know y'all gonna say that the topic has been covered like a gazillion times, but let me explain quickly.

I had read all the K-1 FAQs and Guides from this website, made a research with what I think were pertinent keywords.

Yesterday I had my interview in Paris. It went well, visa incoming apparently.

But when I dropped my documents at the first booth, the lady, who was very nice, told me that I would have to remain on the US territory for 2 to 3 years before being able to travel outside.

From my previous readings, my understanding was that a K-1 visa holder couldn't travel outside of the US territory until his/her AOS is completed and he gets his/her greencard. I know about the AP if you wanna travel outside before the completion of the AOS.

But as far as I read here also, the AOS/Green card process doesn't take 2 to 3 years.

So I am confused now.

Yes, you have to wait for AP or the green card. I have never heard of having to wait 2-3 years (your conditional greencard is only valid for 2 years), possibly she meant months.

OK, that's what I had on mind about the AP/Green card combo.

Yes I think she either meant months (to get AP), or meant 3 years wait to get citizenship to LIVE abroad and not loose your greencard.

That woman, which is very nice, says that to everybody at the embassy. I don't know why... I just nodded to her when she said it to me, even if I knew that would never take that long.
