Hi Everyone, I'm new to the site and want to ask about the B1/B2 Visa. My girlfriend was approved for a B1/B2 visa, and she is coming to visit me and staying in the US for 1 month. I'm a US Citizen, is it legal for me to marry her while she is here? That way, I can start the documents to bring her over faster.

Yes, you can get married, that is fine!

As you already have plans to marry (before your fiancee has entered the country), once you marry your wife will have to return to her home country and you will be filing for a CR-1 visa.

Yes, lots of foreigners get married every day in the USA! Nothing wrong with it as long as she doesn't plan on immigrating on the tourist visa.

Nothing says that you can't get married on a tourist visa, but this can be tricky. You can get married and go back home before your visa expires, but you'll need hard evidence to prove to the CBP officials that you intend to return your home country. You have to come armed with lease agreements, letters from employers, and above all, a return ticket. The more evidence that you can show that proves your intention to return home, the better your chances will be of getting through the border.

It is highly recommended that you look at all the pros and cons of getting married in the US while on a tourist visa before doing so. It is also suggested that you consider all your options, including a fiancé or spouse visa, to avoid any complexities in future.

It's not that complicated or scary :)

While it is a good idea to have ties to home, visiting on the vwp is fairly easy and straight forward and few are denied.

If the main point of the trip is for holidaying and you have the vwp you have a very, very good chance of accomplishing your goal. No need to tell CBP you plan to marry if it's not your main or sole intention for the trip.

Good luck :)

I'm curious to know the circumstances about how she got the B2 Visa and where she's from. Were you involved in the process as a sponsor or did she do it all on her own without any mention of you? Just asking, because my Thai girl friend has been denied twice. I have to blame myself for that because I was involved in the process.

I've learned that words like "girl friend" and "relationship" will guarantee you a denial, just about every time.

This depends on a specific case and on the country you apply in, I would guess.

I got a 6 month visa for visiting a friend. A couple of years later, it was boyfriend and that got me a 3 month visa. When I said fiancee, I got a 10 year visa. Go figure.

I was a part-time student the first time (so technically unemployed) and a full time student the next two times.

I am sorry your girlfriend did not get her visa. :(
