What are the consequences of working without a permit while applying for AOS?

Hey there! I'm amazed of how helpful this website is! I have a question, I would appreciate it if anyone can help.

I'm currently applying for AOS through my husband. I don't have an employment permit yet. I have been working since I was 18 years old now 22. I quit my job because I'm applying for AOS and my husband thought that would be the most ideal thing to do. How ever, I find myself wanting to go back to work. Does anyone know what USCIS does to people who are working without a permit when they're in the process of AOS? or even when they were not applying? Has anyone had this experience before? Thank you, and would appreciate any answers. Please no disrespect.

What is your current status?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I was at my job 10 years before I quit it to move to America to marry my husband. I havent worked since May 5th and I cannot wait to get started again. Did you file for your EAD with your AOS? When did you file your AOS? EAD doesnt take too long, around 90 days or less (give or take) from the time you filed AOS. Id wait it out personally. Whats a few weeks of waiting instead of getting in trouble for illegally working? We're used to the waiting game with the visa.

I'm in the "Biometrics" stage of the AOS process.

Have you been working for 4 years without DHS authority?

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

It's possible that you could be arrested and have to wait in lockup until your status is determined / verified.

I did not file for EAD along with my AOS. The lawyer who helped me told me, the process of both things takes about the same amount of time. Yes I think I'm just going to wait. Thank you for your response, this really helps.

So, working without authorization. You need a new lawyer, and a good immigration lawyer this time. Om what basis did you enter the USA?

I understand how serious matter of a metter it is, but I was told that they would probably just give me a fee or something like that.

The whole AOS process takes like 10 month right now.The EAD takes 3 months. If you didnt file for EAD i suggest you do it otherwise you wont be able to work until you get your green card. My green card "should" get to me around Febuary next year but my EAD will get to me next month allowing me to work whilst I wait for my greencard. I wonder why your lawyer didnt get you to file for your EAD.

Wondering the same.

You need EAD to work.
