Corey, just FYI... A Marriage broker is someone you pay to arrange, or try to arrange a marriage for you. Sadly, this still goes on today.

Yeah I understand the confusion, but yes, I marriage broker is something very different. I don't think they get nearly as much business as they used to, with the ease of sites like cherryblossoms and other sites.

According to others that went through Cherryblossoms, the site does not fall under a marriage broker. The definition of "marriage broker" in the case of a K-1 petition is defined by IMBRA.

I am sorry my comments disturbed you. They were not meant to be a personal attack on you, but rather the industry. The fact that statistics show they last longer than a "usual" marriage doesn't improve my opinion of the industry as a whole! It is sad.

There are many documentaries that show the plight of women in certain European countries that seek the services of a "marriage broker". They are promised better lives from marriage brokers (not all) only to be victimized!! They are sold into sex slavery, abandoned in large cities, etc.. While there are success stories, many turn a blind eye to the widespread corruption within that industry and what happens to the majority of the women along the way. I sir, can not.

In regard to the unscrupulous outfits (which get ALL the press coverage), I agree with you. That's beyond question. However, the industry isn't monolithic. There are excellent, very reputable marriage brokers out there, large and small. My objection was not to your disapproval of the unscrupulous element of the industry, but rather to judging or dismissing the entire industry on the basis of the operators who draw the negative publicity.
