I have looked at the I-864P form but am wondering about the household size? Is that the number of people immigrating PLUS the sponsor? Seems like a dumb question but I want to be sure to understand even what seems very basic! There is my fiance, myself and my 2 kids. So we are a household of 4 even though we're not actually there yet. Is that right?

Gosh it seems so dumb and obvious as I write it out but I want no mistakes!

A household of 4 shows as $28,812 so what amount does he have to be making in order to sponsor us? 125% above that amount or 125% of that amount?

The US citizen sponsor needs to meet the income requirements for their household plus the intending immigrant(s).

So... the amount in the 125% column is the amount they need to be making in order to qualify as a sponsor? Again, I know this sounds terribly basic but I thought it was that amount PLUS 125% because it seems like a ridiculously LOW amount in order to qualify to care for a family of 4. And is that amount based solely on the amounts from their tax returns?

It is 125% for 4 people. Not 125% + 125%. It is based on tax returns and current income. There are directions that accompany that I-864, I believe page 8 of the directions is what you should read.

The poverty guidelines are quite low for large households, that's not a mistake. Seems silly but it certainly makes things easier!

I don't know why I can't grasp this. Is the amount in the column under 125% the minimum amount my spouse needs to be making? Or is that amount considered the poverty line and they need to make 125% above that. If someone can help me and just give me the dollar amount he must be making for him to bring me and my 2 kids to the U.S. that would be great. I feel like an idiot.

the 125% column is what the sponsor needs to make, documented by paystubs, tax returns etc.

The sponsor needs to count all of their household and the immigrant (so for example, sponsor+ wife+ 2 minor children + elderly father claimed on tax returns+ immigrant= household of 6, or single sponsor + immigrant+ immigrant's minor child also immigrating= household of 3).

If it is just your US spouse/ fiance (he has no dependants, minor kids even if they don;t live with him etc) + you and your two kids that is a household of 4 so minimum yearly income of $28'812

Thank you! That's what I was reading it as but wanted to be certain. I don't want any doubts or wrong information in my head as I plan this. He makes way more than that so we're just fine.

Just some advice for you.... if you fill in your timeline and/or your visa type, it will be much easier for members to respond to your questions with the correct information as the process is very different for each visa type.
