If anyone could help me, it would be much appreciated! My wife has been a full-time student for the past 4 years and has only worked part-time. She graduated in May and now she is starting her career as a registered nurse on July 23rd. Can she fill out the I-864 if she has already started working there? I mean on portions like annual income, can she put what she will be earning starting at the end of the month? or will she have to use her part-time work and we'd have to use a joint-sponsor? thank you!!

They want to know what her current income is. She can provide recent pay stubs and a letter from her employer as proof. She also had to submit copies of her 3 most recent federal income tax returns. If she makes above the minimum poverty level guidelines for her family including yourself, you won't need a co sponsor.

If we can get a letter from her HR department saying she will make around $40k a year would that be enough proof?

Has she passed her board exams?

With a brand new job it may be a bit more difficult. An adjudicating officer would want to see a bit of an employment record. That being said, nursing is a great career and has very stable earnings.

If you are looking to submit the 864 soonish, it may be wise to line up a joint sponsor just in case. Hopefully it won't be needed and by the time of an interview she would have a longer period of employment that would assure the IO that she's set in the position.

Would it be possible to hold off a bit on filing until she has 3 or so paychecks under her belt and can send in checkstubs? If not for sure get a co-sponsor.

Thanks for the answers! I really appreciate it. We have a joint sponsor that is gladly doing it if needed. Just wanted to know if my wife could do it by herself since our joint sponsor is taking a while to send our forms lol
