  1. 1. In light of Kelo, Citizens United, PPACA, Arizona etc SCOTUS rulings and the strangehold of the political elites (both left and right) on certain parts of our economy and society, is the Republic still worth preserving?

    • Yes, in its present form.
    • Yes, with a more powerful federal government and weaker states
    • Yes, with a weaker federal government and more powerful states
    • No.

If the current Federal Government understood the constitution (which is apparently doesn't showing certain laws passed and upheld) then it might be worth preserving or trying to salvage.

However we have a limitless government that's controlled by corporate greed.

They've actually managed to convince the Liberals that corporate greed is a good thing by throwing them a few bones in the health care bill. A bill that truly benefits no one really and makes insurance companies money, corporate hospitals money, and of course big pharma money. All of this while at the same time screwing over the older generations and younger generations alike.

Fortunately we have the Supreme Court of the United States, for these matters where the interpretation of the constitution is in dispute!

In that case, why are they not pushing for optional auto insurance as well? Aren't the auto insurance companies screwing over older and younger generations alike? They operate under the same model as the health insurance...

Yeah right. An activist court full of people who'd rather make history than hold up the constitution itself. The court has essentially been legislating from the bench (which is CANNOT do).

John Roberts should be impeached and thrown to the wolves for his re-writing of legislation.

Regardless of that, look at the court. Liberals vs. Conservatives? That's not Supreme Court, that's a political disaster.

It's a complete US vs THEM government now and it's embedded into the whole thing.

July 4 stands for something and perhaps it's time it actually held meaning once again, because it's apparent that this country is lost from what it once was. The funny part being is that even when this nation was founded, they knew that liberty would not last because human nature dictates things at the end of the day.

It's called Independence Day for a reason.

If Roberts should be impeached, then all others should too. I am certain there are those who approve and disapprove of every decision taken by the SCOTUS. That is why we have a justice system.

The justices do not label themselves as liberals and conservatives and my experience tells me that those who tend to over-simplify issues into Libs and Cons has a myopic and sophomoric limited view and understanding of how this country operates. That Fox or CNN labels the justices does not mean we need to do so too. I have never met, nor do I believe there has ever been a person who is 100% liberal or conservative. We all have both traits in our opinions and stances.

July 4th stands for all that. It stands for the right you and I have to disagree at each other, to bicker at each other even, to twitch our noses and to b*** c at each other all we want until the cows come home, knowing full well that we both want what is best for this country and would not hesitate one second going to combat and having each other's back covered if we had to. It aint all that bad, really...

It aint all that bad? That's any nation though. I can do the same in Canada, the UK, Brazil, etc.

It's not about being able to gripe to each other. The 4th is about getting away from an overbearing/overcontrolling government. A government that does't look out for our interests, but their own.

The fact that people have lost site of that is extremely disturbing.

As I said, PPACA isn't a healthcare bill, it's a nail in the coffin of the idea of liberty from corporate control. Liberals see a few things they like, so they accept the bill as is. Although I will say there are many true liberals fighting for repeal as well. - This is a corporate bill. It's a bill that makes big insurance even bigger, corporate health care even wealthier, and pharma more in control. It's the EXACT type of ####### that the left goes after the Koch brothers on and big oil. However since "pre-existing conditions" can get a health plan now, it's all OK somehow. The hypocrisy is amazing.

Steven in particular likes to rail against Ayn Rand, but this is the EXACT type of garbage that her idealism is about. It's about stopping corporate influence in government. So long as corporations have power in government, the people will never win. I mean just look at the corporate farm tax breaks, big oil tax breaks, banking bail outs, etc..

The American people suffer while big business is propped up continuously.

It's a sad day when I have to sound like more of a liberal than the liberals around here.

The 4th of July is meaningless these days. It's just like every other "sell them this and sell them that" holiday we have today. People forget their meanings and just treat it as a day off work. How many people do you think will read the declaration of independence tomorrow to their family and friends?
